BF survival forum knife.

I just had another thought, maybe we could add in a dollar amount or percentage to the cost, and donate it to BF? That would make it a forum knife that also gives back to the place we love here.

Great idea. Kevin just emailed me and said he would look into it as soon as he has time to do so. I'll email him these thoughts when he replies.

If you guys want to put together a collaboration with the BladeForums.com name to it, I'd request that we get at least one for auction and / or my own personal camping use. Past that, I'd hope that you'd do it so that it's not seen as a "money making" venture, but just a collaboration.

Sounds fair to me. If we add a percentage to the knife's cost, maybe that could be used to pay for the auction knife or one to donate to Spark or better yet both?

I have a suggestion, good or not, for a high visibility yellow or orange G10 or micarta handle. It is a bushcraft knife, that we want to find when we have misplaced it, not a sneaky-swat-darkops-combat-stealthblack knife. Even though a knife in some really really dark colour would be fun, but not to use for Bushcraft. Who uses a FK G1 for bushcraft?

I'm not sure yet Spark but we might be able to do both. At this point we still need to get a consensus on what design (could be though) and someone to make the knives (that might be easier) When/if we get that far, I think two knives (one for you , and one for the BF auction) wouldn't be to hard. Hell I'll pony up a few extra bucks to make it happen.

What do you think of this design? Its one of mine and as there seem to be 2 camps here as far as grinds go I could offer both a full grind and a half or scandi-grind.
I personally like O-1 and I can offer them in damascus for those of you who are rollin' in the dough. I would have no problem donating one to Spark. This one has stablilzed maple scales and mosiac pins.

So far we have makers interested on doing the knives for us. Ironwolf forge (Ken) and NWA (Nick). I'm going to call these guys next week to talk this over with them and get their input.

Right now it looks like we might try and do two or three different designs.

Drop point, Scandi, and maybe a chopper. Not sure yet. I'll talk to the makers and respond on the other threads. From there will need all your input and Ideas as well.

Thanks again for taking the bull by the horns on this tarmix  My only problem now is that if two or three knives are done, I may want to buy them all!

Thanks Tarmix & Tknife for putting this project together. PM me if you need any help.

This could be a very bad thing... for my bank account! :o

I really like Nick's/NWA design, but I've seen Ken's work at knife shows, and his stuff is really nice, too!

Drop point, scandi, chopper, NWA, Ironwolf... (head esplode!)

:)

Update so far. We still only have two custom maker interested in making the knives for us.

NWA and Ironwolf. As mentioned I will give these guys a call early next week to discuss price, pattern, wait time, ect......

Anyone that has a relationship with makers willing to take on a project like this, please feel free to jump in.

Updates to come next week:thumbup:

Have a good weekend to all W&S forumites:thumbup: :D

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I have been watching this thread for a bit, but I have been sitting back to see what rises to the top. We all have our own Ideas about just what a knife should be, and what it should do. There are a lot of good ideas out there. Personally, I like about 1/8" for a utility blade, maybe a little thicker with a full flat grind, but not over 1/8 for a scandi grind.

Just talked to Nick (NWA) and Ken w/ Ironwolf forge. Both these guys are willing to come up with a sketch or a knife within the next few weeks for us to look at.

Nick is making a knife for a member here that sounds really interesting. Let's give them some time (as they both have full time jobs) to put something together and we will go from there.

forgot to add..... both are willing to come up with a blade only option so each owner can put their own handles, pins, ect on it........

I think that would be neat, especially if the made a batch, then left some un-finished. Would cut the cost alot for some of us, which will be a problem. Like I was saying, for canadian's, $150 US will be $170 CDN, then theirs gonna be shipping, and some of us with our luck, border costs

But either way, I cant wait to see it. Ill have another check in a few weeks :D

Good news. Ken with Iron Wolf Forge PM'ed me today and has two designs almost ready. I will start a thread with the pictures when I get them.
