So I've been searching far and wide for some stock, oem g10 scales for my ZT0562cf, and while on eBay I came across this:

Honestly I'm a bit intrigued. I found several videos online comparing the real and the fakes and to the credit of the Chinese producing these, they're pretty damn good. Aside from using (I believe 8cr13) they seem pretty solid. The average Joe would not be able to tell the difference, but then again the average Joe wouldn't be willing to spend $200+ on a knife.

At $50 it is cheaper than any set of scales I've found. My plan is to put the g10 scales on my cf and keep the "replica" in my jeep in case I needed a beater. I think I would end up selling my carbon fiber scales as they are a little too flashy for me.

I appreciate the fact that the seller has listed this as not authentic and isn't trying to pass this off as a real ZT, but doesn't it have to violate some copyright? Stealing intellectual property?

Am I losing my mind for even considering this? Should I save my 50 bucks and spend it JUST on a scale? Would any of you intentionally buy a fake/clone/replica?

I would not intentionally buy a fake for a number of reasons. This gets talked about a lot and can/will get heated.

Chances are the scales from the fake won't even fit. There's been many discussions about this before and it usually never works. Don't waste your money on supporting these people, buy a scale from one of the many makers here, the quality will be head and shoulders better also.

I wouldn't buy a fake. I would also suggest you forward that ebay link to ZT/Kershaw/KAI customer service or if they have a special email for fakes.

I saw some fake ZT knives for under 11 bucks if you're going to get a fake you can still pay the lowest amount.

well remember this. If you buy it and put the g10 scales on your genuine knife you still have to put something on the fake. So selling the C/F may not be an option. You could have your CF scales taken off and roughed up a bit to bring down that flashy shine. While I have seen many counterfeits and clones and can confirm many times they are decent knives many times holes aren't perfectly placed. I have no problem with clones but I just don't think I would ever want to put the fake parts on the real knife even if I couldn't tell them apart.

Not a good idea. He wants to swap parts from the fake to the genuine. The cheaper fakes are usually much lower quality and much less accurate.

I had won an auction on eBay for a ZT 0566. after winning I immediately ordered a blue TI screw set for it, pivot offsets the whole 9. The screws arrived the day before the knife. So the next day when I got the knife I immediately say down to swap the hardware. Well not a single screw fit the knife. Pivot and offsets included. I emailed the screw seller thinking he just accidentally sent the wrong hardware. He got right back to me and told me he did send the right set and not to insult me but I may have bought a clone! Taking a closer look I'll be damned its a fake!

So being able to swap scales will not be possible. If you could swap all your doing in my opinion is cheapening the real thing.

Before I knew I had bought a clone I did order a 0562 clone reason being I wanted a 0562 but could not afford one and it would be a long while before I could. I now feel bad for buying a clone on purpose because all that did is continue to fund the counterfeiters! They do make really convincing copies and should take there talents and start making there own knives.
Since the 0566 turned out to be a clone I checked all my knives I bought via eBay and found a Spyderco Tenacious sprint run that is a clone as well! All supporting these people does is allow asshole resellers to rip people off who think they are getting a great price on an expensive high quality knife! If you don't know what to look for you run the risk of being had by these thieves. I HATE THIEVES!!!!!!!

Don't knowingly support counterfeiting. It is scummy. You are not buying a "replica". You are buying a counterfeit. Save the money for a real scale. How much is your integrity worth?

All valid points. Taking a pass on the fake. Does anyone know where I can find a stock g10 scale? I checked the sales forums and everything ZT gets snatched up quick. Amazon and eBay have a few but they are custom and more than I'd like to pay for a little piece of plastic.

You own a top quality knife. Why would you put poor quality after market parts on it?

Go with top shelf gear. You started with it, finish with it.

Honestly? And I have been considering doing this myself, buy the g10 version and switch the scales, sell the Elmax CF version. Other than that be faster on the exchange, pay more, get a custom. Your integrity is worth it.

You should be reporting the listing to EBay, not encouraging it.
I don't think there's anything to report as long as the seller isn't listing it as authentic, and discloses it as fake...but I'm no attorney.

Interestingly enough, the listing has been removed since I posted this thread. There were 5 knives left at the time of my original post.

eBay had a policy about selling fakes even if declared as such. They really started clamping down after Gibson guitar fakes got so prevalent.

It was removed because people reported it as a counterfeit.

Explains why they're no longer up. So now the question is buy a custom scale? Or buy the Elmax, put my cf scale on it and sell that..OR, keep the Elmax and sell my Carbon fiber?

I sold a 0566bw to help fund this knife and honestly never had any problems with Elmax other than the silly name. From what I've read it's much easier to sharpen and I intend for this knife to be more of a user than shelf queen.

People....People....People.... Knowingly buying fakes perpetuates the builders of fakes to keep building fakes. Don't buy fakes ever!!!

It's been mentioned already, but I highly doubt those scales would fit. I'd also guess the scale will definitely have the appearance of a $5 scale.
