Big Saturday sale at Poorfish store

After running into a similar tactic at a car dealership, I told the sales manager "All you need to ask yourself before you try this again (price switching) is not whether or not the person in front of you knows anything about the car business, but rather is that person smart enough to go on the internet," cause it's all out there online.

That was pretty short-sighted. I was going to buy a Sage 2 from them in a month or two when I have the money, but now I'll be buying it from someone else. I assume there are other folks who will do the same.

The Leafstorm is an awesome deal at $112.00:eek:

USA made Ti framelock with S30v

They usually sell for around $130 here.

There are deals there, you have to find them.;)

Yes, they indeed left a few deals up. But, everything I wanted went up or vanished. (even the Leafstorm was raised from 130 to 151)
Not the best way to run a "store wide" 24 hour sale, IMO. Sending out mass emails to your best customers, who will check prices, only to find everything changed for the big sale. Is a shoddy business practice at best and a deceitful one at worse.

Poorfish has always been fine to deal with for me, whether on ebay or from the site.

I realize you're disappointed, but a Sage 2 for $129 shipped still was not a bad deal in my opinion.

Yes it wasn't a bad deal. It just wasn't what they lead me to believe I'd get, when I opened their email and checked the prices. Like I said shoddy at best, deceitful at worse. (besides the prices were only a few dollars cheaper on most of the raised items, with the 25% off than the regular price)

They had been fine to deal with mostly for me too. Besides the one time a package they sent me went out of the USA and I called them to be told, I needed to file the claim on their uninsured package, (impossible) if it never showed up again. Because the post office had lost it not them. Even though eBay certainly would have held them responsible if it never showed. It did show up after a long delay, but I felt they was trying to get out of any responsibility for it if it had not.

I planned to buy two of the Gayle Bradleys (one for me and one for a gift) within minutes of the sale starting. I had two in my cart at midnight, I started to finish the checkout right when the "twentyfive" coupon went into effect and just like that, there were none in stock, my cart was cleared of the Gayle Bradley knives and I couldn't complete the sale.

Close but no cigar, either someone else beat me to the punch within the first few seconds of the sale (and there was only two in stock prior to the sale starting) or the inventory of them was "zeroed out" at midnight so no one could take advantage of the sale.

Also, I have had a number of good transactions with Poorfish both via their Internet store and eBay.

Regards,

Rich

some of the people on ebay do similar things with the shipping prices, they say free shipping but raise the price of the knife to cover the shipping lol.

BEWARE of poorfish i've had some bad dealings with him on ebay, don't waist your time as this is another test to his character.

Common these days.
Wal Mart had a camera I was wanting, last month it was 174.99.I saw the black Friday ads and it was listed at 224.99 on sale for 184.99.

PoorFish has the best prices around and they are usually always the cheapest. The sales are run offer better deals then the already low prices and it's hard to find lower priced items IMO. During the 25% sale you could get the Spyderco Leaf Storm for $113 shipped which is better then could be found anywhere else by almost $20 and free shipping!!!

That was great if you wanted something they left up, not so great if you wanted something they had when the sales email arrived only to find it not for sale, suddenly. Or, checked their prices then, only to find the great deal suddenly not so great because they raised them way, way up.
Why can't they just be upfront about it? Say some items won't be available and some will be marked up. Oh, I know because they are hoping people will go ahead and buy, saying It's still a good deal! That's your right if you feel like that, but I'm done with them, I can buy like items for a few dollars more and have them sent in a hard box, not a first class envelope. Plus, get a lot better customer service if something goes wrong. (and I won't plan to buy items when a "sale" is offered only to be shown actual savings much less than I was lead to initially believe)

I don't think Poorfish deserves the " :thumbdn: "

It's true they modified their prices to offset some of the 25% discount, but the resulting price was still lower than usual and there were bargins everywhere.

NIB Leafstorm= $112.00
NIB Pacific Salt= $44.00
NIB Manix 2 =$63.00
Free Shipping over $75

Show me other dealers selling this low. Actually don't, that's deal spotting, but you get my point. Sorry Jill, no respect lost, but Poorfish gets a  from me.

They should be up front about the entire deal and not send an email and a link with prices and availability that they know will change, when their best customers go to buy.

Jill loves those Spydies (and who can blame), so what this really boils down to is disappointment. Nothing wrong with that. We've all been there in one way or another.

Just found out they are doing this again. I was going to buy two knives today and use the 20 off 100 coupon they always have. I put the items in my cart and went to get my CC and when I got back. Both knives that were 50 bucks were now 60. Come to find out they are having a big year end sale with a coupon code for 20% all merchandise. I got to looking around, and they raised all their Knife prices by 18-22% for this sale, So it is no sale at all. Pretty shady if you ask me.

Not only shady, against the law! A report or two to the better business bureau....and they may not do this again; although it is common practice for many retailers...I for one find it a bit underhanded.
