Bikers post here.

Here I am back a few months ago, took my 6 year old son out to the kids track to ride. I stick with dirt bikes now-a-days, to many close calls on the highway.

Nice! I had a KX80 as a young buck, then graduated to a Honda 125, then eventually a 250. Those things sure are fun to ride!

They used to call me "tabletop". That's the first trick I'd bust when I got to the track.

Thanks, sounds like me, started out years ago and still love it, love me some wheelies, hope to be trail riding for many years to come.

I ride a 2009 ZX6R - mostly track and IOM TT style when on the back roads early Sunday mornings. Will be picking up a SXV550 if I find one close to home in decent shape - for some reason supermotos are calling my name.

Don't think I can upload photos....

Are you a biker?

It all depends on what the definition of a biker is. My father was a dealer/racer of British motorcycles in the 50s and 60s and I grew up in that environment.

Motorcycling was a lot different back then, it was not the ego-driven fashion movement it predominantly is now, people were much more likely to buy a motorcycle to fill a practical need instead of looking for a piece of jewelry. Motorcycles were not appliances back then either, a rider had to be a mechanic or he was not going to do much riding, this is why there really were not that many motorcyclists until the Japanese started mass-producing motorcycles that needed very little maintenance compared to the British or American motorcycles, and it is also why there were not many Harley Davidson riders at all until the 1980s when they started making the Evolution model that was pretty much as reliable as a Japanese bike.

In the end I am not that interested in motorcycling or motorcyclists unless they were riding before 1980. I still ride around on my Norton, but I don't go to rallies, bike nights or shows because I don't need attention, I ride to the grocery store, to run other errands or to visit friends and family so I can save money on gasoline. And I don't have to dress up like a member of the Village People to ride a bike because I don't care if anyone else knows that I ride, if I am mowing the lawn before I ride to the grocery store, then I ride wearing the clothes I was mowing the lawn in.

gben - let's not start alienating riders here....

Like I said, anybody on 2 wheels is welcome here.

I beg to differ with you on there not being many bikers before the 80's.

I use my motorcycle as my sole means of transportation. I ride every day - rain or shine. I do all of my own maintenance and wrenching. I do wear my leathers, but it's for protection instead of trying to be a poseur. I've been known to zip around in just jeans and a t-shirt.

That being said, I have no problem with the reasons anybody might choose to ride. Just the desire to have 2 fists in the wind (no matter how often) is good enough for me.

Steve - no disrespect taken, and none meant my friend.

I just wanted gben to know all bikers are welcome here. I wouldn't want someone to be afraid to post just because somebody might think they're not "genuine" enough.

Steve, my hat is off to you sir. Keep on riding, open primary and all!

Sure, dirt bikes count! I'd bet most of us cut our teeth on em. I know I did! I went from an old cushman to a Kawasaki KX80, then on up from there.

My friend's new scoot (I rode it, and it's pretty quick!):

And my dirty ol hog:

If the cold weather doesn't make you keep your machine off the road until Spring, this stuff will.

Yes indeed - that's some ugly stuff. It ain't just salt anymore.

I purchased this about 9 years ago or so; it had 5000 miles on it then and it's at 49,xxx at the moment (I couldn't find the time to break 50k this year). It's a 1995 Ducati 900SS/SP.
