Bikers post here.

Been riding 38+ years. I grew up in the country and there was a bunch of us kids that all had dirt bikes. A kind neighbor let us build some nice trails and motocross area on his property. Kind of a "keep' em off the Mary-Jane" thing I suppose. Spent entire summers from daylight to dark out there. Many a broken bone to go with it!
My first street bike was a 70's Honda CB 500 with no working clutch, front brakes or legal tags but man oh man was it cool! I bought my first Harley in 1990 and have owned 20 couple since. Current stable is a 2011 Road King, 06 Soft tail and a 10' long rigid frame fire breathing sportster.
Normally these days, depending on vacation time, I put on about 17k miles a year and ride somewhere pretty much everyday. Gotta love that Dallas weather!

Speaking of ATGATT.. from the crash described above(that was me posting under Kirk D, being my recently deceased brothers acct. since I was at our mother home pc and didn't notice it was on his acct. K Ducky was his 2nd acct, hence my name here) when I had my 6 front teeth knocked out, concussion where I lost about 24 hours, broken left orbital(left eye socket)..I was wearing a high end full coverage helmet, as well as fully armored 1 pc roadrace leathers, back brace, etc. I absolutely wouldn't have survived if I didn't have all of that on.

This pic was taken 3 weeks later(Nov 2012), after all the facial swelling had gone down. That halo is screwed into my skull. Still on a ventilator at this point.

Pic from 2 weeks ago. I'm back riding mtbs again, almost daily. Truly blessed to be able to do so, and not dead or worse..a quadriplegic. That would be literally hell on earth imo.

i'm 45, started riding about 3-4 years ago, started with the local MSF course.
first bike - Honda hornet 599
2nd bike, 2008 KTM Superduke
current ride - 2008 Speed Triple

commute to work about 2-3 times per week.
I have about 9,000 miles over the last 3 years.
I'm not a canyon carver, I just appreciate technical bikes.

^^^^ Ouch >_<

Gotta ask though...

How fast were you going?

I have to admit, it seemed a little comical that a 5 mph slideout could leave me with a broken leg. Now I'm kind of wondering if I could end up in that same state if I were going somewhere closer to 30-35 mph in full gear.

Aprox 70ish mph. I was doing a typical pass on the Dragon(I live next door), having done so literally 1000+ times over the last 30 yrs. A cruiser guy had just hit a corvette head on, after he went wide over the yellow line. It broke his forks and engine cases, dumping a chit ton of oil on the road. They had just cleaned the debri up, but not the oil. Here I come thru 15-20 minutes later, and must have not seen the oil..

Pic taken of the oil after my crash. It would've somewhat blended in with these shadows. I lost the frontend going into this left, and went off the mtn where those trucks are parked. Hit a huge pine tree about 12' up. Then dropped to the ground. Luckil a retired EMT saw the crash, and pulled off and rendered aid. With both lungs punctured, lacerated kidney and liver..I would've died otherwise in a few hours.

The cruiser/corvette crash was even captured in time lapse photos, shown below. The rider was a very very new rider, and had already crashed earlier that day on hwy 28. A person had stated they helped pull him out a ditch on that road, an hour before this crash. As tyou can see, he was busy waving at the camera, instead of paying attention. They even talk somewhat about my subsiquent crash, in the comments below the vid. It changed my life forever. My fault for being there tho, as I'd already broken my back the yr before on this road. That also ended up a 2nd l;life flight. I low sided my DRZ into a parked car and crushed my back(3 burst fractures). Yup. Crazy as that sounds.

In thise vid starting at about 1:38 it shows him waving prior..

In this vid done by an aspiring roadracer on an RC51(1000cc), I catch up to..and pass him at able 6:50 into the vid. Thats me in the red leathers going by him on the 750 at that point. I didn't know the guy, nor knew he was filming his ride at the time. Those red leathers were cut off of me after the DRZ crash. I've had 3 sets cut off of me there, over the yrs.

Dang. If I'm ever in the neighborhood, I'd make a point to admire the Dragon from a helicopter and not on the ground thanks ^_^

As it stands, I'm quite confident I won't go near the area(Tantalus Drive/Mount Tantalus) here in Honolulu for a couple of years. It'd be damn hard for me to make those rapid twists(on the Dragon) repeatedly even at half the speed you guys are going. Plus, I enjoy more of a slow and chill ride.

Not sure what the guy on the cruiser is thinking, I personally think he's an idiot. If I got away from a crash, I'd go home for the day and give some thought as to what happened, and what I could have done to avoid it happening again, not jump straight into a twisty road that even pros would find challenging while on what looks to be a 600+ lbs cruiser that's heavily loaded up.

Whenever I go wide on my turns, I generally find that's more due to a failure to slow down enough prior to the turn.

Just got my body armor today:
IMG_1064_zpsb997bd68.jpg

Fits perfect! Looks like I'm a puffed up chicken up close due to the thick armor around the chest, but I'd rather look stupid than have broken ribs. Still a bit stiff, though I'll be wearing it for a few hours as per the instructions so the armor can mold to my limbs.

Had to remove the knee/shin armor so it can fit over my new boots, but I've ordered separate knee armor(only the knee) so I can use this with my boots and not leave my kneecaps exposed.

It's also cooler than it looks. Obviously a bit warm indoors, but it's a mesh fabric(even though it doesn't look it), and you can feel the breeze on your skin. Feels heavy lifting it up, but you don't notice the weight once it's on.

Kevlar mesh fabric. Total cost(including gloves) came out to about $2,000.

But well worth it if real world use is any example(guy ate it at 70 mph, walked away without a scratch):

Evidently he didn't hit a tree or anything, but still very impressive. I've more or less cloned his choice of gear(except the helmet). Hopefully I never have to test it.

Just turned 110,000 miles on my '09 Road King. My bike is my primary transportation. I love to ride, rarely do I drive the Tahoe unless the weather is bad or I have to haul something I can't get on the bike.

There's just nothing like a road trip on a motorcycle. It's an adventure those in cars will never know. It's like an iron horse - you are very limited in what you can carry, the weather is sometimes an ordeal, etc. But I wouldn't have it any other way! :)

So, Sons of Anarchy's last season starts tomorrow.... Anybody watching? I know I will be!

After the season finale last year, I'm practically jumping outta my skin to see what happens next!!!

After 10 years and over 20,000 miles, my old PX150 got retired to a new owner who likes the old school.

Also lost the audio at some point in editing, and I don't know why -.-

I ride a 2007 CBR 600rr. I ride as much as possible, living in MI kinda sucks for riding 3 months out of the year. :thumbdn:

Are you a biker? What do you ride? How often do you ride? Post a little but about yourself here. Pics are welcome, stories are welcome. Pretty much whatever! I'm not a metric hater. I don't talk down on any bikes. As long as you're on two wheels, you're welcome here.

I took the traditional non-traditional approach to riding. My parents were dead set against it, so of course I wanted to ride. My uncle had a late model Norton Commando Mk. III and it inspired me. Started riding with a Kawaski KE125 in college (1983) and never looked back. At the moment, I have a garage full of old-school Italian Iron:

1993 Moto Guzzi SPIII, en route to the 2004 Greater Pacific Northwest Dryside Gather (my first GPNDG) near Yakima, Washington:

1983 Benelli Sei 900, the ULTIMATE flash bike from that era:

1980 Laverda Mirage 1200 at the Grand Canyon:

1994 Ducati Elefant at the 1998 Denizens of Doom Right Coast Ride (my very first RCR) at Camp WestMar, Maryland:

1987 Moto Guzzi LeMans 1000 Limited Edition (1 of 100) at the USS Hawkbill Memorial in Arco, Idaho:

I noticed the post from Noctis regarding his Motoport gear. I am a fan of their stuff too. I bought one of their kevlar GP-1 suits at a Cleveland International Motorcycle show back in 2001 or so. They had a 3XL on the rack (I'm 6'4" with a 56" chest) and the price was quite reasonable. The black is hot in the sun but at anything over 45 mph the air moves through the mesh easily to cool you off. Here I am wearing it on the LeMans, getting ready to take my son for spin in the neighborhood:

Haven't posted anything on here in a while... Here's some pics from Lone Star Rally 2014.
