Thank you, sir. The HB he is making now will have the ends of the quillions file-worked into a shell motif. I can't wait to see it ~ will post when it arrives.

Bill has mentioned your HB to me with the shell guard quillions . I am very anxious to see it please post pics when you get it.

Looking forward to seeing that HB. That's a beaut of a Bagwell there VML love the contrast between the dark blade and the shinning steel guard and pommel. Love it. :)

The turned handled is a Yellow Rose Bowie I'm told, unsure about the name on the stag one...

Joe,

I have no words to thank you enough for allowing me contact Mr. Bagwell after some thirty years. It's funny how many things we have in common and we could've talked on the phone at least until the next day. Such great, smart, and at the same time simple man. It was truly a privilege to talk to him over the phone earlier today. Today was a wonderful day. Thank you so much. I owe you.

Juan it is my pleasure. Sorry you did not get my first email.

Bill called me earlier to BS and mentioned how much he enjoyed the conversation with you.:)

Well after a decade of wanting one i finally received my dream knife from Bill yesterday and it is a killer one! Eventhough i have a carbon steel version that i use all the time i always wanted a damascus version because i have never seen a knife i liked more than it. I feel very fortunate because most people can't say they own the knife they've wanted more than any and now i do.

this one has a big 11 1/4" blade with spanish notch. OAL is 17 1/8". the knife feels great in the hand despite feeling quite a bit heavier than my carbon HB. for comparisons sake the carbon blade measures 10 1/2" with an OAL of 16 5/8". When i told Bill i wanted a longer blade this time he warned me the knife's dimensions would get bigger all around to keep it balanced right. I'm glad i backed the length back down from 12" because this one is a hefty blade as is. it carries its massive spine thickness further towards the tip than the smaller carbon HB.

The african blackwood handle has some deep black coloring mixed with a rich brown. Bill said it has a translucent look to it and i agree with him. It was his last piece in stock and he saved the best for last i think:D I chose to go with the classic pin motiff instead of the flower stud like on my carbon blade. As much as i like the flower i had invisioned this knife as is for a long time now. To me it represents Bill's most classic design and is what the Ontario HB is based off of. Stag might be more attractive but i think Bill's coffin allows for the best fighting handle.

my pics are very sloppy i know but i'm not a photographer and i don't even own my own camera so this is what i come out with borrowed equipment. all apologies for that.

if i can find someone who is better at taking pics i will get some better ones on here. I would also like to thank Bill for making this for me and i know it was tough forging it in the Texas summer but i would say he still did a fantastic job despite 100* heat. Also a big thanks to Joe for all of his pics and talk about Bagwell's over the past few years. Would of never got it without you bud:thumbup:

Mark this is probale the nicest coffin handled HB I have seen

It is a perfect size for a big HB

I love cable damascus and the way this pattern stands out is fantastic

Blackwood is one of my favorite woods and this piece truly is a stand out

I am fortunate to hear about the knives that go thru Bill's shop. I love to hear about them as they are born and I was very excited about this one because I knew it was coming along well and I knew what the knife means to you

Congrats on a true classic thorough breed fighting bowie.. It's a good one

Mark, it is absolutely great. The handle treatment is perfect for that knife..........................But if I had to pick between the two, you already had my favorite. I'm just not much of a damascus fan, but that carbon steel beauty really rings my bell. You are a lucky man to own two such perfect knives by a master.

Paul

thanks gentlemen! I knew you guys who have handled alot of Bill's work would like this one.

Paul, i know what you mean. I got the carbon blade first because for one it was cheaper and i wasn't sure how much i would like the design and secondly i wanted a user. The damascus blade is special to me for a number of reasons but i will probably always be closer to the carbon blade due to the fact i use it.

WHY oh WHY does Bill's damascus seem to get more beautiful with every knife I see after my own :P is this the knife fever collecting bug I've got that's bitten me? That is one cracking knife and I have to say probably the best coffin handled Bowie of Bill's. Congratulations and I hope it is a jewel in your eye :D It has a beautiful damascus pattern and it just flows so beautifully.
Your a lucky chap Crossada. :D

For anyone out there; who uses a Hell's Belle regularly and how does it copes with usage rather than say a plain oval guard? I've been thinking about using a Belle over say an ordinary Bowie of Bill's? I know the Belle has a certain role specific to being an extraordinary fighting knife but what bout being an all rounder?
As you can prob tell I'm contemplating putting my Bagwell into working cos I'm starting to think that you spend so much money on a knife and have it sitting on a bookcase when its been made with usage in mind.

A pic I took at the Paris show in 2006, featuring two Bagwell knives
Hi,the damascus bowie is that published by Silbereis on the n°37 of the magazine La Passion Des Couteaux?
I like a lot it
