Bill Bagwell Knives

Mendezj and Marsus you guys are way to kind . I know Bill would apreciate it so thanks from both of us.

This has to be one of the best threads ever on Bladeforums; the sheer size of it accounts to that and then the fact that people are so interested. I've spent nights up to 3am in the morning looking for any photos I can of Bagwell knives through the years and it is and has been great to see knives from thge closest and the chests coming out and being seen in a proper light of appreciation for the man that is Bill Bagwell :D

I’ve certainly enjoyed it. However IMO the size of the thread probably speaks more of collector loyalty than mass interest since probably 70% of the thread’s activity is the result of just four of Bill’s collectors.

It was/is a good thread, and good for makers as well as collectors. I've handled quite a few of Bill's knives in my shop and really admired each one for it's design and quality, but now having been exposed to so many variations, I have decided to acquire a carbon blade , coffin handle HB for myself. I'll be talking to Bill soon about it.

I find it funny that I started this thread when I didn't even own a Bagwell. Now I have one and it is a beauty. Soon enough to be 2 and then hopefully more and more.

I think it has opened a lot of eyes in that knives don't have to be all bejewelled and engraved but can be brought back to brilliant basics with the Bagwell touch of class added to it.

Every knife of Bill's I see I can instantly tell its a Bagwell but the subtly variations put on each knife to suit the person is amazing. Like there Joe and myself have the damascus and stag Hell's Belles; both the same knife but if you look at them you can see how one is different to the other to suit the person. I have a pic of mine in hand to show the size diff and then I have pic of me holding it to show off the size of the knife in comparisson to me and you can just see how a knife that Bill makes does well become a part of you. It is def YOUR knife and one you can and could bet your life on in a pinch.

Here's the pic of my Bagwell in hand. It makes my forearms look tiny and believe me they're not :P I prob have wrong grip too so don't hit me for that :D

Glad to hear it Mr. Long. You sheath work on those Bagwell's that Joe owns has been just stunning and everyone has complimented the knife perfectly which I think has shown you off to be a master of your craft :D Hopefully I'll remember about you for my next Bagwell and be able to avail of your services for it :D

Well, thanks to Joey Paranee sacrificing one of his slots to me, I now have a Bagwell on order. I want it to be a pure Bagwell with just a tiny touch of my personal choices. Carbon blade, of course with a coffin handle, and because I wanted a little shorter blade it will have a standard guard. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but since it's my name on the order..................you know.:D:D:D

Paul

Paul it is an honor to let you have one of my slots.

As a man who sees the best of the best day in and out it speaks volumes of the mans work .

Really excited about this one. Congrats:thumbup:

Joe you are a saint giving up one of your spots! If you ever find out that you could probably sell them you would have a small business in the making:D

just kidding.

Paul, i can't wait to see what you and Bill come up with.

Mark congrats again on a great knife.

Those slots are becomeing near and dear Bill's waiting list is growing

He has been getting alot of international orders to add to his normal backlog.

I am thankful to have a few slots a year and very thankful to pass one on to someone as dear to me as Paul.

You rock, Joe. I've been coveting to have one of Mr. Bagwell's knives for some thirty years and you made that possible. Now I'll need to find me a peccary or a jaguar or something to kill in hand-to-hand combat with my knife from Tejas. :D:thumbup:

Link to another great place that belongs to a very good friend of mine. I'm the only person allowed to shoot doves on the island. You shoot them right at the beach.

I'll do my best to come visit if only for the day. I'm dropping my kid off at Haverford and that's always a little hectic.

This is a great thread. I have been a Bagwell fan for years, since his days in SOF. He was instrumental in forming my opinions of what a blade should do.

What does a No BS carbon Bagwell bowie run, price wise? I am thinking 2k or so. I have decided that i will order one this year , and i want the cash in hand. I know it will take a while, but nothing worthwhile is instant. I want this knife to be used often and well, then be passed down to my son.

I'd also like to hear more of the things you guys USE your Bagwells for, and how they perform. I am a huge Bowie fan, and I consider Bagwell to be THE maker of bowies, as he has familiarity in both of the aspects that make them great.

Also, since I am an aspiring bowie maker, I am curiuous as to the specs like blade thickness, taper, how they feel, balance , ect, to try to get a better idea what i am shooting for. How thick is the steel at the edge, and how is the edge its self, sharpness wise? Flat or convexed?

As Bill once quoted about the Bowie, i forget where and who, "all else is ridiculous upon comparison"

That was a pure gentlemanly thing to do Joe. Tis great to see that there are people still like that out in the world and it's great seeing how so many people on this forum are like that and so willing to help.

I've been really impressed with your help and how willing you've been to talk things through with me and thoroughly maintain that I wil give you a phone someday for a proper chat and thank you :D.

Here is one i have temporary custody of. I am getting it professionaly photographed for one of Bill's collectors. it is probably my favorite Bagwell of all time.
