Bill Bagwell Knives

Guys no worries I apreciate the kind words and the support of all.

Kevin and STeven are my friends and no simple internet forum could ever change that.

I was a little hurt that there where some suggestions that I take my stuff somewhere else and usually when someone suggests that you start your own forum ,club etc. that is what they are getting at. When it comes from people you respect and call friends it kinda stings.

I know this thread is getting rather large and large threads over time wear on people that is why I suggested that people post Bill's work up on there own threads and can add to this one at a later date. If anyone has noticed when I add a pic of one of Bills knives to this thread I edit a past post so it does not pull the thread up. I think this thread is important though because it is the largest compulation of Bagwell knives that I have seen.

I have never said that I was not trying to promote Billl's work. I spend my money on it and use it and more importantly he is my friend and I will always be there for a friend and to talk about work I believe in. The bottum line is that if I was going to war or had to depend on a knife to save my family or my life I would grab one of my Bagwells. I have many knives that I am sure would be up to the challenge but I have never rolled an edge or lost a tip or bent or chipped one of his blades. And confidence in what you are carrying is half the battle.

So like I said no worries and I will be around.

Thanks everyone very much.

By the way Paul Long made me say all this or he would kick my ass:D

If I took this all wrong for that I apologize.

Kevin I have edited my post to add that Bill even while he was shooting still made knives but due to his busy schedule was not turning them out as frequently. He is still shooting alot but is really concentrateing on the knives now. I hope this can just slip away I do not want to cause confrontation between any members. The reason I edited this post instead of making a new one was to not bring this thread to the top again. I hope we can just get back to the knives.

Mendezj looking forward to hearing from you and hopefully getting together

Sorry I stirred up such a ruckus.
I actually thought creating a Bagwell Forum was a good idea considering Joe's comment “some Bagwell knives deserve their own threads”. I agree and to his point, BIG threads are often cumbersome, and good knife photos can get lost in them. I certainly don’t see a benefit of folks double posting photos of Bagwell knives both here and in individual threads on this same customs forum.

I wasn't going to comment further in this thread, however since I have been called out by name twice since my asking if a Bagwell Forum has been considered, I will address statements in the post below.

The traditional forum has a couple of long running threads with over 5000 posts on one and 1000 plus on the other. If someone has called for a separate forum for them, I missed it. Truthfully I hope they never do, as I enjoy both the way they are. If I see a thread on any forum that I am not interested in I don't open it, it is that simple.

Kevin, you have called for a Bagwell forum at least twice now.
Where have I called for a Bagwell Forum before yesterday? And even then, I only asked Joe if he and others had considered it. If you are going to question my posts then please read them accurately.

If you don't like it, please don't look at it.
Where have I said I didn't like it. I have enjoyed the exposure to Bill's knives. There's certainly no conspiracy here against Bill or his knives. At least not that I know of. I love forged knives and Bill has always been a leading pioneer in the modern forged blade. But that doesn't mean I have to drink the Kool-Aid. There's things I like about his knives and things I don't.

If it has not been done before, maybe start a thread on Dean's, Fisk's or something else that you like.
I have frequently started threads on Fisk, Dean and other maker's knives. I post them, I hope people enjoy them, I let them run their course and they go to blade forums archives.

I would certainly like to see more of their work and if it got to a point where I lost interest in it then I would quit following it. There would be no reason to call for a separate forum, or post negative things.
Again, where did I call for a separate forum and if you examine my posts to this thread you will find they are for the most part very positive. Like many other maker's knives (such as Jerry's, Harvey's), there are some things I like about them and some I don't. If I identify what I like, I will do the same for what I don't like.
Isn't sharing opinions what forums are about? If only "at a boy's","high five's" and discussion related to the perfection of a maker's knives are allowed here then perhaps that in itself is a good reason for starting a separate forum. Now if you have found me to be negative over and above offering critique than let me know.

I will never be able to thank Joe enough for the inspiration, enthusiasm and knowledge he has shared with me in regards to custom knives and bowies in particular. With his hectic schedule, just taking the time to answer my 587 and 1/2 questions ( many are repeats) over the last few months shows what kind of person he is.
Hopefully, Joe will reconsider and continue to participate here, as it wont be the same with out him.

I posted my feelings yesterday regarding Joe's value to this forum and he is a good friend. One of those friends that when the going gets tough he will be moving forward with you rather than back. He showed me a really cool production knife he had bought at Blade. He could tell I liked it, so he gave it to me. I didn't want to accept it but he would not have it any other way. Said he would get another. It's now one of my favorite EDCs.

The reason I'm going here is to point out that friendship is very important to Joe. It's common knowledge that Bill Bagwell kind of put his knifemaking on hold a while back to pursue his firearm interest, Joe has made no secret that he's promoting Bill's knives here. He has certainly helped Bill get back into it which I believe we all agree is a good thing.

My question yesterday centered around if a Bagwell Forum was a better way go? Maybe, Maybe not.

Time to go, stayed to long and said to much.

Kevin, thanks for the call it was great talking to you and am glad we got everything squared away.

It was nice speaking with you Patrick. One of most satisfying aspects of collecting knives is the people met along the way.
Sorry if the tone of my above post was a bit harsh.

Joe, Is Bill and his wife still shooting competitively?

Kevin I know Bill has been shooting and working on loads and has mentioned shooting a match in the near future.

As for his wife Sidra I think she held so many titles that she is more casual about her shooting and is not competeing right now but I am not sure. I believe Bill would have mentioned it to me if she had any matches coming up.

Bill and I are trying to get a hunt together with Matt Lamey for the fall.
Thanks again

That will no doubt be an unfortunate day for whatever game you are after. ;)

Today was a great day. Today I had the privilege of visiting a truly awesome and beautiful family. And while at their home, I saw the most amazing collection of Bowie knives I've ever seen. Not to mention so many other things.

Today Joe Paranee let me handle a bunch of what are some of the best Bowie knives ever built. In all honesty, the Bagwell knives stood several rungs above the others; at least to my hand and eyes. We are lucky to have Joe participating in this forum. We are also lucky for having access to some of the best knives ever built.

Thank you, Joe.

Juan it was our pleasure to meet you and your lovely family. Your knowledge of firearms and sportfishing I can tell would make for many hours of delightful conversation. Looking forward to many future visits when you come to the states to visit your lovely daughter and we will definately wet a line or do some shooting. Thanks Again

One thing I find surprising about the Bowies from the best known makers is how light they feel in the hand. Although you're handling a knife with a blade ten inches or longer and distinctly thick at the back, the balance is so wonderfully achieved that once in your hand you feel you can do anything with it. It's pretty amazing how a Bagwell knife, for instance, feels like a great knife for slashing thru bush as well as for skinning a deer.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm looking forward to getting my Bagwell knife, never too soon.

This thread has some of the best knife porn EVER... Guess I better start saving up! Does Bill have a long backlog?

Yeh I got another 13 months to go till Bill starts on my Helle's Belle and I placed the order bout 6 mths ago. Unless there are a few orders dropped, it could be sooner. Till then just have to be content with the pics

So a 1.5 year backlog approx... To be expected from a maker of this caliber.

I just had to return to this thread to drool some more now that I'm finally home from work...

What a great guy... Spent 40 minutes or so on the phone with him, and what a pleasure it was. Oh well, May 2011 my satans lace damascus Hell's Belle will be born!
