Bill Bagwell Knives

This is ridiculous

First off your using junk Ontario stainless steel production knives ...... They are not Bagwells

Have you ever handled a real Bagwell ?

Only an idiot would send you a real Bagwell and have you ruin the value and the temper

I was too speechless to think of anything to really reply.

I read it. Then reread it. Then looked at the number of posts and thought, is it true? Are they serious...

That sounds almost like "send me your Bagwells, and I will then bounce for Mexico"...even the factory ones are getting pricey.
One of the weirder things I've seen on BF recent-like...
Edit: I just read the original post-umm...you lost me at "the blade weakening notch was welded up"
?!???!
Wow.

I've never seen spam to ruin your knives :)

Everyone that has ever followed the work of Bagwell knows the HB is a very specialized design that echoes the European blade arts

For an all around field use type of blade Bill would not recommend an HB

He would recommend one of his more utilitarian blades without the Spanish notch and C guard

Obviously the poster has no grasp of Bills work or its intended use

The Ontario pieces IMHO were just replicas of the HB not even in the same realm of a real Bagwell ... Cheap stainless Pakka wood etc

It's a shame to tarnish such a great thread with this garbage spam and I hope the mods delete it as spam

My favorite passage is, "by the time I am done, you will not recognize your knife."

I'd imagine not once the welder got going.

Either a bad joke or a pretty lame attempt at scamming...you trade in your Bagwell and get a cheap factory knife in exchange? The "modified" HB looks like a knife that Western made. Someone with more knowledge of production knives could verify. I think Bagwell wrote about it in his book.

Ben

None of those are modified

One is an Ontario

The other a Western

He does not show his work

i owned two ontario models before i started collecting the real ones, somewhere around 2006. i think his comment on modification pertained to the ontarios. even so, cannot imagine any modification that would have made them better. there is such a huge difference between them, the ontarios are kind of toyish by comparison. they look kind of similar, but do not perform the same. ( yes i have chopped and stabbed in the woods with both!) here are some pics of my two favorites. these styles are uncommon for bill to make. a long thin satans lace, and a double edge.

The Bagwell bowies are a decent knife but need a few simple modifications to make them true combat weapons {snip} Any actual Bagwell owners feel free to send me your knives and i will perform these modifications for free {snip} by the time i am done, you will not recognize your knife.

Sure just PM me your addy and I'll collect all in the Bagwell's in the neighborhood and get them right over.

I THINK maybe one or two got the humor of the post....i had told a friend that the humor would be missed by most considering the thread count and money involved....i was a bit more explicit, and sad to see i was right....i happen to own a knife by Bill and pretty sure given his old mod suggestions to the W49, HE would think this funny...

Well, I am relieved to know this was your attempt at humor. I must admit the joke went over my head, because I didn't see anything funny at all. Like JP said, I don't think Bill would have seen the humor either. It would be a very difficult task to improve on Bill's idea of a real Fighting knife, not to be confused with a combat knife.

Paul

It was clearly a "spoof" post based on an article Bagwell did about the Western Bowie for Soldier of Fortune magazine back in the late 1980s and then repeated in his book.

Maybe this thread will help.

I kind of chuckled. YMMV.

Ken

Now in retrospect I see the humor

But I know Bill pretty well and he wouldn't :)

Now that I know the intent was for amusement I get it ..... I'm slow sometimes
