I don't " Bird ,nor Trout " ,lol , but these work great in the kitchen too

Bird and Trout knives are one of my favorite knife styles. I have discovered other styles that grab me, many I learned about from being on BF. (Ya'all are a bunch of enablers you are. Feeding an addict's habit like that. Do you have no shame at all??? )

But I am always pulled in by a great Bird and Trout knife. So, here is the top end of my B&T collection. Not all of them by any means but I think these make a good showing. Or would if I had set up better lighting. o_O

Dan of Bazz Clazz Dan of Bazz Clazz I think I broke my mouse trying to hit the "like" button so hard. Great collection.
Thanks. Definitely a work in progress. Saw some in this thread I may need to track down. The Menefee's above are damn nice. Also the Cannady, JK, Langley, Jelio, Japie Visser, Hitchmough, Hauge, Krein, Dawson, Western, Seckar, Childress, Worker, Goldman, Coombs, Behring, Primos, and Mason earlier in the thread all have me drooling. Curse this having to live within my means.

Came across this in the week. I'm by no means knowledgeable about fixed blades but think its the sort of knife that would belong on here, thinking it a small game knife. Could anyone tell me if I am correct in this assumption and what the intended use of the knife should or could be. it is 8 inches long overall with a blade length of 4 inches. Many thanks.:)

Looks like an old Finnish puukko. Is there engraving in the edge?

Yes there is, faintly visible in my poor photograph in lettering I can't decipher. So yes maybe Finnish. The person I got it from said there may be another more or less the same to go with it. What's a puukko? and what would it be used for? Many thanks for the info

Puukko is Finnish allround use knife. Used for bushcraft, whittling, opening game and fish etc. Looks actually an old "Ilves" (lynx) by Marttiini, one of the older Finnish cutleries. Did it have a sheath? If yes can you post a picture of it?

No, unfortunately it didn't have a sheath. So glad to have found something so useful and interesting. There is some good stuff on YouTube, including puukkos being made which I'm looking forward to watching and I'll certainly be following up on the Marttiini connection. Thank you very much for your assistance with this HFinn it's much appreciated. I'll put the other one up if it turns up and see if the sheaths can be found too.☺

I'll put up a better picture, but yes there is a kind of looped design on the bolster and a kind of etched, freehand script within the recess on the blade (don't know what that is called) which I'm sure if deciphered would solve the mystery.
We need a close-up of that bolster, it appears to have writing or a motif on it.

Aivan ;) It could be a home-made knife or parts as it's rather odd having that fuller on such a narrow fillet type blade. But, the bolster has some design on it, pics please:)

I can't read that text either, it needs tilting more. at first glance I thought it was the Finnish word for Åland, the island between Finland & Sweden Ahvenanmaa..?? Don't know of puukkot made in Åland though but I think this is a home made knife.
