BK20- Speculation on the 450 units

Yes, you really do want an RSK Mk2 -- they're that nice in hand, and TKC scales are glorious.
Yeah, I think I may get one down the road. It looks like a sweet knife and I am a big fan of Shon's work. I agree, I have TKC scales for my Izula 2 and love them. I am getting a set for my new BK21 as well. I think they are going to really take this blade to a whole new level. I will post a pic when I get them.

for those of you that have gotten yours already.... and for those of you that have YET to take possession of one but have one on order, look VERY closely at the description Ka-Bar themselves use on the packaged invoice to describe the knife.... it makes some reference to " straight edge " at the very end of the sku description...

Personally having been thru all the BK20 threads, I have come to make myself believe this is referencing the clip point edge, which IS straight cut on this model... now, dig thru the other BK20 thread with the pic of the prototype sent to them... it has a curved clip point more like that on the BK9 or BK7.

IF I HAD to venture a guess under pain of death.... I'd guess these straight cut 450 limited edition sprint run knives will soon be gone, but rereleased as a production run item with the curved swedge clip point...... this keeps the rarity and desirability of the original 450 ...... and still allows them to be dropped on the market as a production item without anyone getting egg on their face.

though, I will be the first to admit.... I could be VERY very wrong in my speculations.... but that Ka-Bar in house description of the straight edge to describe this version is sure interesting....

Maybe right on target with that 1 as I just checked invoice, also note says with leather sheath
So a Possible little more curve on the clip and then a Leather Sheath with the Next Run ? Only a guess at this point
But for the few minutes I had the chance to swing this BK20, it is a Big badass Blade, which most if not all will agree once in hand

Leather sheath and more cut work on the clip point would also effect the end user price and make the new version more expensive off the shelf than these would be....or at least it could be seen as " value added " to justify the price staying the same WITHOUT the 2 freebies.....

just thinking out loud....

If that happens I will be tickled pink. I like the wider blade and the clip personally. I have no real reason for liking that more except looks but man I love the way that proto looks.

Guys...

Kabar wouldn't put leather on the 21, even with the Rienhardt Estate pushing for it. They're not going to put leather on the 20, either. Let's just take it for what it is. This knife was made "for us" the Beckerheads. Funny the quantity produced is right around the number of listed Beckerheads. So, if you've got a number, you'd better not look a gift horse in the mouth. Go buy YOUR 20 before someone else does that's not even a member here. I would be surprised if Kabar makes anymore.

the next gen will have a different number, be thicker, and longer :)

speculation

also have a forward lanyard hole

also be made of 5160

Ethan Becker told me to buy a Junglas. Guess I pretty much have to now.

both side are friends

both sides will tell you the same thing

both sides make fine knives

it's up to you to decide what you like

but unless you have an informed opinion...

" Straight Edge" is usually in contrast to "Serrated Edge", but I can't see a serrated edge on this beast. The curved swedge clip on future models makes sense. Personally I much prefer the production vs the prototype clip points.

A change in steel makes sense to me, unless it negates the R&D acquired by making this knife. I keep thinking... why this knife in .25" instead of the usual thickness? I wonder if
Ka-Bar has made an investment in tooling that will allow them to go .25" on knives larger than the BK2? Maybe the BK20 project is just the first of more .25" knives to come and represents expanded capabilities of the factory?

Maybe somebody familiar with the processes can comment?

Thinking is hard. I just follow the crowd.

KaBar has no reason to tell us their business plans

any idea how many have they sold so far?

very tempted to order another, come paycheck next week...such an awesome deal! and when the 4 & 5 become scarce & price goes up, I'll have some to flip or gift. It's a win-win in my book.

I agree and am really in line with this train of thought.

This too! I have a quarterly bonus coming up that my company is really dragging their feet on! Ugh! If it comes soon enough I may grab a safe queen and recover some from the freebies, seeing as how I've probably voided my warranty and all lol.

I wonder if there is a next run, it may be thinner with a traction coating. The coating is no big deal but the thickness could go either way. The balance would change for sure, but with my limited knowledge, I'm not sure if it'd be positive, negative, or just result in something lighter and more wieldy. I'd be curious if it was ever considered and if there's more protos than what we've seen.

I get that Bladite. That's not what I meant. I was referring to those with knowledge of how the machining process of production knives works to comment on my theory.
