"Black Box" Winchesters

. dammy's bottom left sowbelly is really burned in my brain!!:D
My sowbelly is a bit of an odd duck, the bottom left corner has some irregularity in the jigging. Gives it a little more character.

I'm with Gary and Will--I would take the swell center pen! You can't go wrong with any of them though as that was when Queen under the guidance of Bill Howard was making some great knives!!

It was a difficult decision for sure. I changed my mind several times throughout the day. I chose the Coffin Jack mainly because of the combination of size, half stops, and the extended wrap-around backspring on the pen blade.

Does anyone know if the Black Box knives from the mid 90's with the gold lettering on the the box are 1095 and made by Queen? @waynorth it looks like you might have a few of these????

Nice knife, Will and thank you for the pic. It reminded me that I needed to get a pic of my newly acquired Coffin Jack before it got dark here. Made it just in time.

That there is a beauty! :) How are the pulls? The main on mine has a pleasantly strong pull, but the secondary is bit of a beast. Opening the pen on my coffin Jack used to scare me, before I started carrying an A Wright two-blader. :D I was just admiring my Winchester when this thread popped up again.
By the way, nice pictures!

Michael

Edited to add crappy photo :eek:o_O

I was looking through a number of my BBWs last night and noticed most of them exhibiting some degree of discolouration on the bolsters, end caps and shields. I think the 25 year old plastic/velour liners are all breaking down and reacting with the nickel silver bits. I have picked up a few over the years without boxes and the ns parts were shiny. I think I will be removing the box liners as long term I think they will be causing unneccessary damage to the knives as they degrade.

Thanks, Michael. The pulls on mine are similar to yours but my pen blade is only a little stronger than the main.

Maybe you could pick up some plastic slips instead of ruining the boxes.
