"Black Box" Winchesters

Thanks to a very generous member (Al) I am now the owner of a 2903. Wow, what a beauty. Great action. Going to put a new edge on it this weekend and put it in rotation.

Sharpened the 2935 last weekend and it's quite the cutter now.

Glad I gave the BB Winchester's another chance. The 2935 has become my new favorite.

My latest addition, 3904 humpback whittler.

I'll butt in if you don't mind LastRodeo it's a 2903 made in 1990 and 3 3/8 " approx Swell Centre Pen.

Regards, Will

Good to hear, Al's a fine gent, great stuff!
Love the sunk-joints on that slant bolster, been looking out for one for ages but Hen's Teeth etc;)

Thanks, Will

Quite right on all counts Will Power Will Power , I’ve included a shot with a new 15 for size comparison.

Well it's no stag 2935, but I found this stag 4935 on the bay and it came in today.

Other than the pen blades being hard to access, it's a really nice knife. The pull on these blades is much smoother and a bit lighter. Much more to my taste

Still on the hunt for a stag 2935.

Wonderful Winchesters Dwight!! Fantastic bone covers and gorgeous stag. I didn't know stag was included in the BB series. Do you know if all of the BB series are made by Queen? Whoever made 'em sure did a good job on yours.:thumbsup: -James

Thank you James. I don't believe there was very much stag used. I can't say for sure if Queen made everyone of them but seems like I've read some were made by other makers. I do know that the jigged bone is suppose to be old Utica bone.

Thanks Dwight. I have two BB Winchesters and I like to think they're; Rogers bone - Queen made. I've heard different things and thought it would be nice to verify. Either way I like 'em!

The Winchesters made by Queen during the Bill Howard era are excellent reproductions of the originals.
In his book, Great Eastern Cutlery, David Anthony explains how the Blue Grass Cutlery contract came at a critical time for Queen and how the making of these knives was a turning point for Bill Howard. Many believe that the Winchester reproductions were some of the best knives Queen ever made.

Nice comparison shots. Al!! They show the beauty of the original, and the BB!!!:) It truly was a remarkable period in time for the evolution of Bill Howard's knife making skills also!!:cool:
