"Black Box" Winchesters

Found another floatin' in the Bay. I didn't realize that there was a congress in the seiries until I spotted this fella.

I've collected the Winchesters since they came out, below is what took me three years to complete.

The theme I tried to go with was to collect all the "black" bone handle ones, which would be the Peachseed, Rogers & Brown bones (all appear to be black). The hardest ones to find were the "Red letter Set".

I'll try to post a picture of them over the weekend for you all to see.

As promised...here is a group shot of the "Winchesters" including some closer shots of the "red letter" & the "Hickok & Cody" sets.

Also wanted to show the more rare & hard to find date stamp of the 1987 model #1924 toothpick, you will note the curved date & model# tang markings, this was one of the first to come out and was changed shortly after their release to the more common straight across the tang style you see on models made afterwards, if you can find one grab it!

Thanks for looking, Ooops, had a bit of an uploading problem...try this link:

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the Pics in this thread Greg. I know you went to some trouble to take all these beautiful pictures to share. Seeing this thread sparked an interest that I will nourish for quite a while.

PS - Is Knifeville anywhere near Kingsport? ;) I left in '85 when I joined the Corps and just moved back (hometown) - after 21 years Boy is it good to be Home. Ain't we lucky livin in TN?

That 2935 is WAY cool! Thanks again Greg. . . . . . . .and again, and again, and again!!!!!
It's always a pleasure to see a nice knife or two when I visit here!!

1987 model 2904. Just shy of 4 1/4 inches. Pretty slim piece. One more to go and not sure when I'll get it. Should be somewhere in Knifeville.

i don't know about the folders, but i have two black box fixed blades, one clip point, and one drop point hunter for the NAHC that is 110% made exactly like the rawhide series queen knives, only difference they have pakka wood handles instead of a regular wood color. i am almost 100% percent certain these knives came from queen, i have compared them to about 8 rawhide knives and am pretty sure.

i just bought a black box, Blue Grass Cutlery, Winchester 5 1/4" folding hunter. box has # W20 19015 and knife 19015 on pile side tang.
i don't see any mention or pics of this knife in this thread.
anybody familiar with it ? year of production ? by Queen ?.
it's rather plain, handle looks like Delrin, but it probably is bone ?
thanks, roland

Wow! There are some great looking knives in this topic!

Originally before I picked up a S & M sowbelly I had considered the Winchester one as displayed in post 15 of this topic for a few reasons. First, it was less expensive. Second, they seemed fairly well built and lastly I believe I read it had carbon blades.

So, does anyone have any info on the steel used for these knives and also can indicate the level of fit & finish compared to, say, other knives built by Queen or Case?

Thanks!

All the ones I've seen on here are just super nice guys, especially that sowbelly! This is the only one I have. I got it at SMKWs when I was up there many years ago and they were having a 30% off sale on Winchesters. This is my oldest Queen made knife.
