Ok,
So I went through and took a tally of all the responses. I noted where folks had changed their minds and made adjustments accordingly. Here are the results:
Bg-42
Polished buffalo horn
Nickle silver bolsters
No serrations
No thumbstud
Thin pocket pouch
Logo on a medallion-could laser it onto a bolster if medallions prove to be cost prohibitive.

It is a virtual tie between the 501 and the 500!
I decided to list some pros and cons to each and will let you decide.
There were a lot of requests for a pocket pouch, the 500 is kinda big for the pocket.
The 501 has been done before- master series.
The 500 has never been customized like this.
A 501 might be less expensive.

Waddayathink?

500.

No, WATI! 501.

Hmmm... I can't decide.

Either.

Heck, why did I bother even posting?

This is going to be a knife to carry in your pocket (with pocket sheath or not) and I agree that the 500 is too big for pocket carry.
Also, the 501 blade is a great blade, not too big, not too small. Goldilocks would say it is just right!!!!

500
No pins
Black Sheath (to match the scales)
Etch bolster if you must, not the blade. (Wouldn’t it be enough just to know that it was a BladeForums collaboration? You could always say it on the certificate. There will be a certificate, won’t there?)

I think if you want a knife to put up and display, the 500 would be a good choice, since that option wouldn't include carry.

If, however, the idea is for daily carry, especially in a dressup situation, I would have to say the 501, with a nice soft leather slip pouch, makes more sense.

also, a brown leather belt pouch would be a good choice for the 500 if it turns out to be the one, or the 501, for that matter. They both come with belt pouches.

I have an idea, why not make them both? Sell them as a set. Call it the BFC Ensemble. Serial numbered, of course, presentation case, certificate...... I know, I know... it's easy to get carried away.

As for me, if you make just one size, I prefer the 501.

Here's a picture of both sizes, just in case anyone has trouble visualizing.

501- the 500 is too big

Rock,
The way things are going so far today, i am wondering the same thing myself!

But this is a fun kind of frustrating! (Actually i kind of like the idea of a set.)

Thanks for the pictures Dennis, that should help.

I'm coming down on the 500 side, very firmly, unless there is a set!!!!!
I don't see the 500 as THAT much bigger, personally. Course, I sometimes carry my Brute around in my pocket, & that IS big!
Dennis' set idea is very appealing, I must say.

Well, I just pulled out my 500 and compared it with my 532. They are the same length, but the 500 is beefier. But, since I carry the 532 in my pocket, the 500 would work there, too.

So, my vote is for the 500.

But wait... I don't have a 501 at all.... and it's not THAT much smaller.

Oh no, here I go again!

No! The 500. Yeah, that's it. That's my final answer!

Or is it....

A set. Yeah, that's it. Because if you just made one or the other, this is one case where I quite likely would buy two....

But you're right, Joe... it's a good frustration. I'm just SO GLAD to see this happening. Either way, the knife is going to be AWESOME!!!

I vote for the 500 Duke! It really isn't that large. I carried mine in my pocket to school as a kid and all over the world while in the AF. Definitely the 500!

(I can live with the 501 just fine if that is what everyone wants.

501.

The 501 is a great everyday carry knife. I also feel that the 500 is too big.

I keep hearing how great the MS 501 is and I wish I could get my hands on one. Since that is unlikely, I'll cast my vote for the 501. That's my final answer. I thought about a set but decided not to mention it because if the idea caught on, it would be twice the price.

If all else fails, flip a coin.
Heads = 501
Tails = 500
I can live with either decision.
