Blade Forums Spring Street Barlow (BF Knife 2021)

Just a beautiful knife my friend . I am a little surprised at the difference in the amount of Red showing depending on amount of Sunlight on the knife .
I really think that , given a little time , this knife will be a Classic . We now need to see what Pocket Wear does to it . The size of this one should be better suited to the Avg. Man's Hand Size now IMHO .

Thanks Harry. Yeah you are right, it is really hard to see much color variation at all in mine until you put it in direct sunlight. I hope some “forced pocket wear” will bring out some more color along the edges of mine. 😉👍
First day of being able to handle and admire mine. As some have mentioned, the pins are a bit proud. Two are proud on my knife. Another observation is what appears to be a secondary pattern in addition to the saw cut. There’s almost a “wood grain” pattern on mine. I’ve seen it on some of the other photos in this thread as well. Very interesting, and I don’t know what caused it. Is it Intentional?

Fantastic collaboration on this year’s forum knife ladies and gents. I know the process got a bit messy at times and some toes were tread, but what a fantastic outcome! Very proud to have been a very small part of this years Forum Knife.
The color on your is very nice. I don’t have that wood grain pattern in mine JOELSM but I do have very proud pins. I can actually hang mine from my fingernail and the pivot pin is even more proud. 😄A3876565-F23F-4D89-9607-B60515CE73FC.jpegI’m thinking of filling them down a bit. To me they are kinda annoying when they stick up that high and you can catch a nail under them.

For Forced Pocket Wear , I like to us some Denim material and have even used a very smooth rock , but prefer the Denim .

I can do the same with the proud pins on mine. The pins on my Spring Street Barlow are the most proud of any other GEC that I own.

I think it’s the layers of bone that were cut through like the rings in a tree.

Are the proud pins something that come with a saw cut, to avoid buffing down the sawtooth marks?
It doesn’t bother me on this model, just curious.

Yea my Northfield 77 saw cut barlows have had “proud pins” nothing that hurts the knife.
I’ve noticed the same on my 77 saw cut and my 15 saw cut barlows, however the Spring Street pins seem to be the most “proud” or “domed”. However you want to phrase it. It’s not my intention to try and detract from the knife by pointing this out, just an observation. I’m thrilled to have it in my collection.

They look great! Just wanted to pass on the info so people who are newer to the game know it’s not a defect 👍👍

Some terminology...

If you look at a domed pin, the top is domed, and there's a distinct flat disc on the underside of the dome. If there's space between the scale and the underside of the dome, that's a proud pin. One poster described it as being able to hang the knife on a fingernail by the pin. This is not normal in any knife regardless of scale material.

Sometimes a spun (domed) pin is set so that a sharp edge is raised on the edge of the dome. That's an upset pin, and not normal.

A domed pin with the underside set flush to the scale surface will often protrude above the scale surface. There's no edge to catch a nail on, the pin surface is perfectly smooth. This is normal.

The saw cut bone on this knife is interesting. Although I can see the saw cut pattern in the cover, I can't feel it even when I draw my finger nail across it. Very, very shallow. It is smooth almost as if it were smooth bone with a saw cut decal covering the cover.
