Blade Forums Spring Street Barlow (BF Knife 2021)

I don’t know if a custom would match the fit and finish on this thing, GEC knocked it out of the park. I voted copperhead but I think the porch made the right decision on the covers after seeing how they turned out. Color and how visible the sawmarks are changes a lot depending on light and angle you look at it from.

How does the thickness of the BF Barlow compare to that of the bone 2AB barlow? They look thicker in pics to me but I don’t have my BF knife to compare yet.

Mine came in late yesterday, so I waited for better light to take some pics. It’s an absolutely gorgeous knife!

Next, with its 86 brothers:

Comparison shot with a NF77:

And finally a shot with my modest collection of Forum knives:

M mcc850 Here's the thickness of two 2abs and the BF knife. If Duvel Duvel has the willingness to do a similar shot with the 77 and the two 86 BF knives, that could be cool to see, too.

Nice shot, Alan!

What a beauty!

I do have a question for those who may have the expertise. There is a natural void in the bone at the end of the knife. It runs in about an eighth of an inch if you insert a pin in the hole that is shown below.

What is the best material and method to fill the void? CA glue? Epoxy? Leaving it “as is” would not be wise seeing that this will be a user for me and it would surely be a moisture trap.

Thanks!
I wouldn’t do anything. Even if you mask it off there is still a chance that you could get glue on the face of it and you do not want to have to sand it. Also I may be missing something but so what if it holds moisture against the brass liner. It wouldn’t rust. It seems like a big risk to solve a problem that doesn’t seem to be there.

I would use the super glue and use a razor blade to cut off the excess when it dries. Ive done similar repairs many times using a straight razor blade (not the type that go into a knife but the type you just hold). I wouldnt do it if the covers were wood though. Depending on the amount you use, the glue could sink, leaving no excess, but it will seal it all the same.

Is it worth asking GEC about in case the void goes further than you can apply the ca?

My traditional knife of the year has been a Natural Canvas 85CL, but this forum knife is going to be the KOTY for 2022.
When I received my bone 85CL, I figured that would easily be KOTY. Then I got both variants of the 38 EW, and knew there was no chance of any knife topping those. THEN I got the bone 86 2AB and it might be the perfect pocket knife for me. The BF Barlow looks so much nicer (in pics) than the bone 2AB which is just mind blowing, plus I prefer carbon over stainless. What a year GEC is having.

How could I forget the TC barlows in January… I probably carry my sepia TC more than any other knife.

Using some cheap calipers, the Barlow are all about 11mm thick, while the 86 rope knife is about 14mm.

😐 when should I start get worried. I’ve ignored this thread for the last two weeks because I didn’t want worry about my knife. The shipping label was created on September 27 and that is the only history posted. Is anyone else in the same boat?

I believe approximately 50% are in that boat with you

Okay. Thanks for the update. Has anyone reached out to Barry at Gunstock Jacks to make sure everything is alright?
Somewhere it was posted that the second shipment went out yesterday to Barry. I believe things are going to work out, there was a week long closure at gec for their annual holiday, Maybe last week? 500 knives is a lot of boxes to be filled, labeled and shipped...
