Blade Forums Spring Street Barlow (BF Knife 2021)

I don’t know if a custom would match the fit and finish on this thing, GEC knocked it out of the park. I voted copperhead but I think the porch made the right decision on the covers after seeing how they turned out. Color and how visible the sawmarks are changes a lot depending on light and angle you look at it from.

Do you have much experience with customs? No need for hyperbole, it just creates unrealistic expectations. The Spring Street Barlow is an outstanding knife, the best available really in a production offering, but it is not on the same level as knives from the fine custom makers.

Yes!! The knife looks way different depending on the light. As seen here, half saw cuts, half smooth, split light.

Honesty I’ve never even handled a custom slip joint, I just haven’t found a flaw at all on my example, I don’t know how a custom would improve upon it was what I meant by that.

Well, as luck would have it, mine arrived today.

It has got to be the worst, ugliest, most poorly made, lopsided, gritty, poorly centered, junky packaged, dull, rusty, (did I say worst yet?) worstererest, knife I've ever seen.

I'm just kidding it's amazing. When I took it out of the tube I am pretty sure I heard angels singing and a rainbow shoot out.

It is VERY nice.

Many thanks fellas. I think I will try out a sparing bit of CA and see if I can fill it without having to do much in the way of sanding/scraping, even if it leaves a bit of a divot. As long as the void is filled I’ll be at ease.
You can get that Zap-a-Gap I mentioned in a few different types. I’d go with the thick one that you can build up. Just go slow and don’t glom it all on at once. It’ll work fine.

Re: the gap. Worst case you can just hit the back of the knife with a satin finish wheel at about 800 rpm on a buffer. It will clean up any superglue excess and look great. It’s pretty much exactly how the factory would do it. That said I’d never fill a gap like that, it looks very minor from the photo angle.

😐 when should I start get worried. I’ve ignored this thread for the last two weeks because I didn’t want worry about my knife. The shipping label was created on September 27 and that is the only history posted. Is anyone else in the same boat.
🤝 In same boat.
