and finally,

the piece de resistance

I've been fooling with this one for a LONG while, damn things are complicated but I hunkered down and finished it finally

Classic Japanese Tanto
9 1/4" W1 Shobu Zukuri Blade
5" Poplar core handle with browned and antiqued Same and Black silk Wrap.
Copper Habaki and SS Seppa made by me,
Wave themed Fuchi / Kashira from Shadow of Leaves.

I posted some WIP pics earlier... here's how one of them has finished out (still workin on the others!)

This is the one pictured before with the brown rubber handle. Here it is again with an etched blade to darken it and reveal the pseudo-wootz alloy-banding pattern in the D-2 steel. The titanium furniture have all been anodized, alternating between a pale blue and a straw gold colors on adjacent parts. The brown rubber wrapping is a synthetic fluorocarbon over a laminated bamboo handle core. Comes with a kydex scabbard and fast draw shoulder rig designed for concealment. The piece may be completely disassembled safely... parts are numbered in the order they go on for reassembly.

Stephan, you're showing good versatilely in your knives.
Looking forward to seeing your work at Blade.

Stephen, your bringing some good looking knives to Blade! See ya at the CKCA dinner!:D:thumbup:

I'll be at the dinner also. See you guys there (sorry if I forget names- I barely know anyone in person)

Lorien- Is it painful to see this stuff with Blade a week away? I feel bad and wish you could be there too.

Thanks Jon:) No, it's not really painful actually- don't feel bad for me!

Looking at all this stuff in the format I have is better than nothing, which was where I was at 4 years ago or so, so I consider myself lucky to have stumbled across this forum at all. I'll get to the Show one day down the road. Especially if it ever moves to the west coast:cool:

The big thing for me when it comes to the Show would be to meet all the characters I've come to know through this forum and correspondence. The value of real face to face interaction can't be duplicated through a computer- much the same, I suppose, as it is looking at a picture of a knife vs. picking one up and studying it physically.

One of my ambitions is to organize some kind of small, high end custom knife show here in my hometown, like they do in Solvang. It's probably a pipe dream, but you gotta start somewhere.

What I'm really looking forward to at this point, is the follow-up posts. They're always a highlight, especially Steve's :barf: :D

I hope you all have a successful and fun time in Atlanta!

A couple of Hunters for my table.
The first one is self-explanatory.
Stag fixed assembly hunter.
5" 5160 blade, 10" overall.

Now, I'm a little embarrased about this one!
I've had that handle material about two years and sent it off last Fall to be stabilized.
I remember that it was Australian, but I forget completely what it is!! I'm not even sure what I'm going to put on the certificate??!!?
But, it's a 5" Hunter blade as well, and 10 inches overall.
See ya' next week!

Karl,
Might it be Coolibah(eucalyptus) ?
I have a Filicietti bowie/fighter that is handled in that and it looks very similar.

I thought I was never gonna get done....:)

I just got a new camera so I plan on some good pics tomorrow or Monday, but until then, here is a little teaser...

Thanks for looking, if you're gonna be there, please stop by and say HI!

Here's how my batch of Vorpal Haiku knives for the BLADE show finished out. D-2 blades from six and a half to nine inches in length, weights from seven to nine ounces. D-2 double edged blades in dropped and swept point shapes, all titanium handle furniture including habakis and subhilts. Handles wrapped either with twisted titanium wire or synthetic rubber. Blades are gently stonewashed over a polished finish. All are toggle-tang takedown contruction, via a stainless steel allen screw in the pommel. All come furnished with Kydex fast draw concealment rigs in the Vorpal style.
