BLADE SHOW ’09 – Show us what you got; Please!

I'm not sure if I'll be able to speak Friday. So, I'll be the goofy one with glazed over eyes drooling all over the front of your tables. :D
So how will that be different from any other time?:D

I managed to get a total of 15 VPD flippers done for Blade, I was working on 4 other neck knives and a XL VPD today when my oven burned an element. I'm going to Tracey Mickley's in the moring to pick up elements but I'll only have time to finish the XL.

I just took a quick shot of the VPDs before I pack them up:

Here's my knife for the "CKCA Mini-show, Noodle-fest and Shin-dig" Thursday night.

It's my first tiled-mosaic blade. I'm normally opposed to the really controlled, repeated patterns of the mosaic blades, but as I don't have a lot of control, mine still looks rather warped and wobbly, which I actually like. The guard is stainless and the handle is a crazy amber piece of spalted maple burl. The wood came from an old, dead hard maple tree that was in front of the first Roman Catholic church built in Bristol, Va in 1865. The tree was probably at least that old. When the tree was cut down, I cut off some large burled areas, dried them over the last three years, and finally had several pieces stabilized.

Burt,

That is a neat and interesting mosaic, and a very beautiful, unique piece of wood. Your curved front guard really sets off the complex lines of this knife.I hope folks realize how hard it can be to pull off so many elements and have them come together into such an elegant , "simple" hunter. I'm gonna have to study this one at the banquet.

I got a new Camera and although I still have a few things to iron out, expecialy with shiny things, I am pretty happy with the pics for now! :)

Thanks for looking!

hey Don, what's that stuff for the handle on the second one down? It's really cool.

with all that black, I first thought it might be elk but I knew that wasn't it.
I haven't seen much, but I've never seen ivory with so much blackness.
Would it be too much to ask to get another, close up shot, of that handle?
No worries if not, I'm sure you're pretty busy getting ready:)
Lucky buggers! Wish I could be there.

Yes, that's some fine Walrus. The kind of ivory worth building a knife around.
One of my favorite activities at Blade is going through the ivory. Some extraordinary examples if you get there early.

Beautiful knives Don. Can't wait to get by your table, and you know why. ;) :)

Don,
You're killing me with that carbon W2 stag bowie/fighter. :D

Burt,
Your hunter is so very nice, as John mentioned, the curved guard
looks great and the handle really shines as well.
The mosaic pattern is my favorite part of this elegant piece.
And of course your excellent sheath finishes the package.

A pleasure seeing both.
And all the other sweet steel in this thread.

Doug :)

Harvey will have this beauty on his table.
I would advise anyone who has a passion for fighters to stop by his table to get the feel of a Dean EL Diablo.
