I don't want to undercut the quality of this knife at all, but I sort of want to call it a "User-grade" stag Fighter. (Which they all SHOULD! be - right?)
This knife went through several "lives" during its creation.
At the beginning, when I asked Roger Pinnock for some opinions based on my drawings, I was headed down this path of having the fittings made from Ws-pattern Damascus, or possibly Twist, deeply etched and hot-blued, and the blade, which was forged from heavy W2, was clay quenched and I was going to finely finish and etch the blade to show off the hamon.
Well, I went through mental "contortions" as this thing lay on my bench looking back at me.
It wanted something else and I just needed to figure out what that was.
I finally decided on a knife that could truly be carried and used without worry of scratching bluing or ruining hamon etch!
So, I went with stainless fittings, and a hand-rubbed finish.
The hamon is readily visible.
A large portion of the fittings are even machine finished!!
Don't let its user-grade appearance fool you, it's as nice a knife as I've ever made, with fit and finish that I am thoroughly proud of.
And, it's meant to be carried and used!
See ya'll in Atlanta!!
