This is the most recent knife I have completed. I should have at least 5 new knives for the show. I think I have enough time to make a folder. I am going to try.
This is a boot knife it is very thin and light. it has a forge welded frame, no pins in the bolsters, and the frame has a slight taper. gun blued steel, red wood burl, and 3 bar damascus. OAL 10 3/4".
Please come see all my knives at booth 223 and 224 along with Mike, Jon and Tom.

The bottom knife is my very first attempt at making damascus. It is 672 layers of O1 and L6 made under the watchful eye of Herb Derr a phenomenal maker who will also be at Blade. I am very syc'd about starting to make damascus. I hope to be up and running this fall to be forging in my own shop.

Hi Everyone!

Here is the special project I was thinking about posting before the Blade Show. I will have it on display on my table at 22-Q. This knife belongs to a fellow Forumite and I'll let him chime in here if he likes.

This knife has a lot of first time things for me such as my first dagger, the longest blade I've made to date (I am currently working on a longer blade) first damascus D-Guard, first blade collar and first time I've done a fluted handle with wire inlay. The 13" blade on this dagger is forged from 1080 and
15n20 in "W" Ladder Pattern Damascus. The overall length is 18 3/4" long. The handle is interior mammoth ivory, the twisted wire inlay in the handle and the collar on the ricasso are argentium silver. There are salt-blued spacers at the front and back of the handle that have coined and anodized titanium liners around them.

I wanted to make a unique dagger and what started this D-Guard concept was seeing the recent Cut-N-Shoot D-Guard Dagger made by Ron Newton. I was also greatly influenced by 1700s-1800s English and French Court Swords in how I've made a large round pommel that the D-Guard dives into.

I would like to give special thanks to Ron Newton for all the great information he gave me. I would also like to thank my brother, Caleb for the great picture!

Let me know what you think.

Just a quick note - I previously mentioned that I would be taking a Warenski Main Gauche to Blade for display purposes. I suddenly can't go, so the Main Gauche will not make it's appearance. Such is life.

Best,

Bob Betzner

Wow, Kyle, we must have been posting at the same time. That is an absolute, magnificent thing of beauty!

Best,

Bob Betzner

EDIT: To have captured your dagger with such clarity, your brother certainly does deserve honorable mention, wow!

Ed, your laminated damascus is pretty cool. I've seen (and used) 416 over a straight carbon core, but not damascus.

And Kyle, it's okay for your first dagger. I'm sure your second one will be better!
