BLADE SHOW ’11 – Show us what you got; Please!

Hello everyone,

Here are a couple of my JS knives for this year as they look right now.

The first one is W2 with a fairly active hamon that's polished out, stainless hardware, and walrus handle--a little over 15 in overall.

The second one is 1084, stainless, and African blackwood. Smudges present on the ricasso will hopefully be gone by Blade.

I'll try and post some more later this evening.

Thanks for looking.

sure turned out nice bro!

Looking really good Tad.

The blackwood there has some beautiful grain. You going to polish the handle up more or leave it as is?

Best,
Pootsy

Thanks, guys.

Pootsy, I'll hand polish up the blackwood a little--it's got some wax on it and looks a little dull in that light.

Here are my other 3 knives.

Turkish walnut(stabilized), SS hardware, 5160 fighter.
Fossil walrus, ss, 1084 fighter.
Ironwood, ss, 5160 hunter.

Thanks,

Tad

Peter, Lorien - I told Tad that was my fave a while back. Great lines, nicely contoured handle and truly gorgeous wood.

The three at the upper left are "Crossovers" (integral Ti bolsters) and have IKBS pivots.
The large frame lock at the upper right uses Larry Chew's Voodoo pivot with needle roller bearings.
The other frame locks all have IKBS pivots.

Best,
Jim Harrison

Scott completed his knives for Blade yesterday and is now focused on sheaths. Here's what we're bringing - all Cruforge V.

Figured I'd better post up a knife before I got lost in the mix.
I have a handful to get finished up this week and will have a nice varied "supply" on my table this year.
This knife is dubbed the Ironwood "Mesabi".
For those who do not know, the Mesabi Iron Range in Northern Minnesota, discovered in 1866, is "THE" chief deposit of iron ore in the United States.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesabi_Range
It is unlikely that any maker or collector on this board or many other boards, does not have or has not made at least one knife with steel originating with the iron ore of the Mesabi Iron Range.
Being a country boy with roots running DEEP in the wonderment of Northern Minnesota, I named this knife after my home.
She was forged from W2 with some clay treatment for a distinctive hamon, a stainless guard for protection and a really, really sweet piece of Ironwood for the take-down handle.
She's a handful, and should take care of any moose, elk or griz that comes along.
See ya' in Atlanta.

that's one of my favourites of yours Karl- such clean flowing lines and really nice proportions. Old school look, but with new school styling. Really nice interplay between the handle material and hamon, and that shiny guard brings on the POP!

I have never handled any of Scott McGhee's knives and I can't offer any opinion about his fit and finish.

But, he clearly has a personal and distinctive design style, which is something that just cannot be taught.

Does it need refinement and and time to mature? Yes, but I will be keeping a eye on his work.

Karl,

Love that hamon! Absolutely stunning. I hope I get to see it in person at Blade.
