Blade Steel Give-Away Contest

Fantastic thread, congrats to M.Rodriguez and THANKS to Garret and the others who've chipped in to help. :thumbsup" to you all! :)

Will, i read your post its kinda lame shipping to Canada 1st class costs the same as express mailed with in the states.Yes the Canadian guys put up some steel i seen the post after.I buy lots of stuff in the states and have it shipped here twice as cheap as if it was me shipping to the states.Alot of people think it costs more and is more trouble to send to Canada but its not its one little declaration sticker ,place the value on it then say what it is to describe the item and send it. Most of the time the man at the post fice or women fill the declaration sticker out any way. Thats like where alot of people in the states dont see Canadians for who we are. My son is in the Canadian army and will be deployed to Afganistan to fight not for the Canadian peoples battle butfor what happened on Sept 11 to the american people . Kellyw

I hear where you are coming from. Like I said before, I didn't mean to single out the Canadian folks but I wanted to keep it simple. (as I said, I had issues previously) Yes, I could have said CONUS and Canada but then someone would have been upset that I wouldn't ship to Mexico. And if I included them someone would have been mad that I wouldn't send to Argentina, etc. I did change it later because I did not forsee it becoming an issue earlier on in the contest.

Indeed! I didn't want to intentionally exclude Canadian folks, Mexican folks, etc. I simpy decided to do it CONUS because I didn't want to end up making a give-away a nightmare for all parties involved. Long story short, I did a give-away once that ended up being more trouble than you can imagine because of international issues. Tell you what, jump on that thread and sign up and then sign up here as well. Be aware though, that if the international shipping rules cause problems that "I told you so"...lol Like I said, I did not intentionally mean to exclude you folks from other parts of the globe. I'm just a K.I.S.S. believer from tons of experience with B.O.H.I.C.A. and S.N.A.F.U.

Next time I will probably include everyone form the begining in order to avoid any conflicts. I assure everyone that there was no discrimination directed towards Canadians or any other folks form around the globe. I can totally appreciate the fact that Canadians are just like us and I appreciate your son's service to the war on terror. BTW, Hellgap was included in the drawing.

Congratulations M.Rodriguez!! :)
Looking forward to watching your build progress. Just shoot me a PM when you're ready for the heat treat. Best of luck.
Thanks to everyone who participated. As fun as it was, now the real fun begins with the build.

Garrett im not trying to get everyone wound up its just i have a hard time understanding why alot of people in the states dont want to ship to Canada. I just emailed a guy a letter asking what he would charge me for shipping to Canada and his response was SORRY WE DONT SHIP TO CANADA . I dont get it the guy still has to ship it in the states and as far as im concerned is no big differance. It was for some redwood burl and some l6 1 ft pieces. I do understand garrett your a good person for offering up a prize.Soon as i turn out a few knives i will put up for a contest.Kellyw

Kelly,
I see where your comwing from. I think that alot of us have had trouble shipping out of the country since 9/11/2001. I had a knife held in customs for almost a month. Garrett did a good thing. Its hard to be totally politically correct. I think he was just keeping it as simple as possible.
Tell your son I thank him for his service. My son did 14 months in Iraq in 02 & 03. I beleive he is there because of 9/11 to see it doesn't happen in Canada. My thoughts are with you as are my prayers. You stay strong, that was the longest 14 months of my life. This is from the heart, from one father to another, who has walked that mile in your shoes.

thanks that was very kind words.I hope its over before he is deployed his tasking requested is recon armoured vehical driver.

rodruigus i hope you make a really nice knife your under the gun were watching you lol .kellyw

Kelly, I'm sorry, I didn't make the rules, I'm just following them.... Kind of a cop out and I'm sorry. I HAVE had trouble sending stuff to Canada in the past and having a customer wait for their box of "camping equipment" for several weeks because of whatever is going on at the border is unacceptable to me.

Thank your son for his service (I don't know but I do understand that won't calm your worries.) I was in the US Army for 16 1/2 years before they medicalled me out kicking and screaming. The Canadian Army is a highly skilled group of brave men and women.

Is that knife finished yet? It's been a day and a half?
