Okay gang, we are now closed to additional entries - let the selection of finalists begin!
Once again, a BIG THANK YOU for all the nominations. And a special thanks to those makers who posted up their work the most we have had to date. This is a spectacular assembly of knives by any measure and no doubt the decisions will be tough. Each year, this thread is what you make it - and you all have made it pretty great.
The fun continues with what I think will be the hardest and most interesting part - narrowing it down to five finalists. The procedure will be the same as before:
1) Each member may submit up to 7 suggested finalists. You don't have to submit as many as 7, but don't submit any more than 7. Please take your time to carefully review all the knives.
2) Please include the post number where your selected knife can be found, and the number of the knife within that post if more than one knife is presented therein - this will help clear up any uncertainty in the case where there are multiple knives by a given maker among the initial entries. For example - a say post number 30 has 4 knives. You want the third. Put "Post 30, #3". AND DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE THE NAME OF THE MAKER!
3) Your order or selection doesn't matter - one vote per knife up to seven, each vote counts.
4) Please feel free to include a few words about what appeals to you about any given selection. THIS is what makes the selection process most interesting.
5) When all votes are in, we add up the numbers (each time a knife is put forward by someone as a finalist, that effectively counts as one vote for that knife) and the top 5 will be voted on by polll in a new thread.
Roger
PS - If anything is unclear, please ask early.

My votes follow:
1. Post# 47, Knife #1 Ridrigo Sfreddo Moghul Fighter - All of the Sfreddo submissions are spectacular, but this is the one I would pick up and take home if given the choice. Great lines and a masterful control of the steel. Im looking at that blade in two dimensions, but my eyes see three. Or four.
2. Post #12, Knife #1 Jerry Fisk Southwest Artifact Bowie - As much as I love Jerrys personal cutter, I couldnt help but cast my vote for this big bold and entirely compelling bowie.
3. Post #1, Knife #6 Nick Wheeler W2 Fighter A breakout year for Nick with a record number of nominations Bravo! Im torn between this one and Coops piece. I give this one the nod because I think it is about as good as a knife gets in a wood / carbon fighter.
4. Post #2, Knife#6 Larry Fuegen Ivory / Damascus Bowie. When does Larrys work ever come up short of wonderfully impressive? Never, thats when. This piece won Best of Show amongst some truly outstanding competition at the ABS Show in San Antonio this year. Its not hard to see why. Just look at that exquisite carved, engraved handle frame. The carved ivory handle with subtle gold accent is a study in elegance. And I havent even got to the terrific damascus blade and sculpted fittings. Love this knife.
5. Post 27, Knife #1 Don Hanson III Damascus / Ivory Flow Bowie Just a compelling study in understated elegance, this piece is overpowered neither by see-it-from-across-the-room damascus nor neon ivory. Its the lines that speak, and man, what a story they tell. Visual balance rarely translates so literally into physical balance and having held this piece, I can tell you it nails both. As if all that werent enough, that ghostly blend of damascus and hamon would require the skills of a poet to be fairly described. I usually struggle to pick my favourite Hanson submission. Not this year.
6. Post #1, Knife #1 Russ Andrews San Mai Subhilt - - As a general rule, Im a sucker for amber stag and damascus. But both blade and handle here are something special. The fine detail work in the fitment of the stag into meticulously crafted ferrules, and the terrific control evident in the san mai steel of the blade, all wrapped up in what is a signature piece for this maker. Its not easy to come out with a design that is instantly recognizable as yours these days. Russ has certainly accomplished that here.
7. Post #27, knife #2 - Dave Lisch Flying Dragon Damascus Bowie Did I mention I was a sucker for amber stag and damascus? The damascus here is absolutely fantastic and the lines utterly crisp. A breakout piece for Dave.
I wish I had another three slots. Or ten. But there you have it. Have at the voting guys, and have fun!
Roger
