BladeForums.com Survival Knife & Kit project

Well, doing some quick number crunching, if it's only the RC-6, sheath, TOPS Stuff, Blanket, and PSP, the price goes waaaaaaaaay down to under $175, less for the RC-4. A Bare bones kit will be feasible. You'd need to find a place to put the blanket and the PSP, but I doubt you'd be hiking without some other sort of carrying device.

That sound great to me Spark. Good price for a top notch knife, and decent kit.

Like most here, I have a day pack loaded with what I require depending on time of year, where I'm at, ect....

This type or knife/sheath goes outside what I normally carry. Be nice to change it up a little.

The bare bones setup (and price!) sounds great to me, that puts me back in the ballpark. I like getting a kit setup, but I also really like the simplicity. Everyone here has such a personalized kit arrangement that something basic will more easily adapt.

As neat as the larger kit might be, I think it is an unnecessary duplication of what most here already have.

RAT says that the knives aren't coming out until March, so once there's a consensus, I'll start taking preorders.

is there a set quanity on RC4 & RC 6 set-ups ? or will it be the RC6 only...I may buy two complete set-ups.thanks Tony

Is there a chance that Rat would etch the blade with Bladeforum.com or something special?

I like this and am watching for complete list and price. I may sell a BK&T 7 at an exorbinate amount on e-bay just to buy in.

i'm liking the sounds of this price a bit more...

I think the bare bones kit would suit me more (and get me in a lot less trouble!!), even though I still need a water component, but I'll find that on my own. I think an official mark for BFW&S would be good too!

Finally my 2 cents are equal to your 2 cents (exchange rate)!

I'll take the RC-4 kit since the price range is finally where I want it :D. I'll just be happy to get the knife, besides I go out with my 2 liter camelbak anyways with potable aqua tabs so I don't need to worry about water purifications stuff and a cup.

Now this is more of the range I was thinking of and would be interested in the RC-6 kit.

I also like this idea because the Extras that someone would add to this kit would depend on how they travel and the Region of the country that they are in.

As for marking the Blade, I think the it would be better on the Sheath.

Because, maybe it's just me, but if the Knife is a Real user, you will not even know that the blade was even stamped with anything in a couple of years.
Myself, I'm looking for a user and making it part on my EDC, be it in a Car or Truck, Hunting/Hiking/camping.

This baby is going to get Dirty.:)

That is why I suggested engraving on the Micarta instead of the blade...or maybe I just thought it up in my head & never typed it...anywhooo !

Ditto..... and another big Amen. ;) IF there is a marking, the sheath is the place to do it IMHO. A BF marking on the sheath would be nice, but not necessary for ME.

There isn't really a place to mark on the sheath itself guys. As for marking the handles, that would involve either milling or custom laser engraving which will drive up the price.

I'd second all that, I like the blade as is. I'd be able to handle a micarta marking though.

Either way, any kind of insignia is going to raise the price of the whole package, which is kind of delicate as it is. Something on the sheath would likely have to be a patch, which would have to be made/stitched/etc. (=$$).

Less is more on this one.

how about just stitching the intials on the sheath somewhere BFSK ?depending on how many order would determine the cost.

If it's going to drive up the price, my opinion is to skip it. It would also take quite a bit of time as well.

Just my .02 of course;)

Is there a debate between settling on just the Rc6 versus RC4? If I missed something and this is the case, I'd want an RC4 (though this is still tentative depending on price!).
