BladeHQ Para 2 exclusive M4 w/ Jade G10

Mine is defective!

Just kidding! :D I wanted to make mine a little different. I figured it would show dirt eventually, so I do a little black RITE dye treatment. It ended up a blue/gray, which is fine with me.

Whoa that looks saweet!

Wow, nice work!!! Not quite the color I would have expected, but I really like the subdued blue that you got there.

Did you take the scales off? Heat the dye?

Thanks everyone. I was actually going for more of a gray color, but I am pleased with how it turned out. I did take the scales off after pulling out the hair dryer, then the heat gun to break the RED Loctite loose! I used a whole box of powder in about 2 cups of water and boiled it. I left the scales in there with it barely simmering for probably a total of 15 minutes, pulling them out and rinsing to see the progress every now and then.

Instead of a Blurple color, I ended up with a Bluray :)

That was black dye and it ended up that shade of blue / gray ? Really? Looks great.

Anyone know if these can be bleached to a clear or white?

I have no idea how bleach would react with G10. G10 is very resistant to chemicals so it may not damage them but I am not sure.

As far as changing the color. I would doubt it. The Jade g10 is not actually died this color. This is the naturally occuring color of undyed G10. There is no green/jade color added. That is just the color fo the resin used.

Well I took the plunge and dove in head first with the edge pro and centered my edge and put on a mirror polished edge. Hair splitting sharp and looks great! Cut with 220 to center the edge, then 400, then 1k, then finished with the new edge pro polishing stones, not tape, in 2300 then 4K. If I can do this to M4 on an edge pro(as inexperienced as I am) anyone can! Pics don't really do it justice.

First time I started with 220 and worked all the way up. First time I moved an apex too. I have just been matching what ever angle was already there even if both sides were different.

I forgot how tight the clips are on PM2's. The combination of the tight clip and the aggressively textured G10 has already started shredding my pocket in less than 24 hours!

Has anyone sanded down the area under the clip to make it less of a pocket shredder?

I sanded the entire scale, though with this one I took it a bit too far on one side. Oh, well, at least it won't eat my pockets.

The most important places to sand are the general area under where the clip sits and the opposite side near the end of the handle where it rubs against the area outside the pocket. Go slow and check as you go, there is a fine line between just right and too far and it doesn't take long to cross that line.

Funny, when I pulled my knife apart to install the backspacer there was no red thread lock applied.

Sure was, I guess the green tint in the natural (Jade) G-10 is what gave it the bluish cast. Thanks!

That looks sweet. I'm thinking orange for mine but I don't know if I should use red (red / yellow make orange) or just use orange dye and see what happens.

How many packs of dye did you use and how long did you let it soak? Did you use hot water? (Simmer on stove) and last question did you use any vinegar in the water?

Again - that looks great.

This was the first time I have ever seen it on any knife. I know taking Spydies apart voids the warranty, but people do do it (and this is well known), so I don't understand why they would use it...it's just going to lead to people stripping their screws if they aren't patient and careful.

Thanks, check out post #929...I think that will answer some of your questions. As far as the orange, I really have no idea what color Rit dye to use. Let us know what you decide and pics to see how it turned out.
