BladeHQ Para 2 exclusive M4 w/ Jade G10

Has anyone checked out the new Mantra? I wanted to own two of these PM2 (one to use and one to look at lol) but I recently saw the Mantra and loved it. Before paying over $200 for a PM2, try getting your hands on a Mantra

Well the blade steel doesn't change the apples to oranges of these two. Just so different. I'd like a Mantra but I definitely wanted a Jade PM2.

It's my turn to say thanks to Johnny_boy02 . He saw my post saying I missed out and five minutes later a receive a PM asking me if I wanted to buy one of his extra at cost . And I said heck yea . great guy and true to his word . I'll be posting picture soon . The knife is to pretty to edc at work . Next week I'll be on vacation with my family and my new PM2 .

Awesome! This is one of the reasons why I love this forum.

Atta boy, Johnny.

That's just the thing though, the Mantra is def smaller and thinner, but the overall feel was very similar to the pm2. The blade also seemed slightly thinner, which would aid the m4's slicing ability. I was all hung up on getting that second pm2 to collect, but now I think I'll put my cash into that mantra

You are welcome glad you are happy with it! You probably saved that knife from a life of unsavory treatment and hard use. Last week I had to bend the clip back on my Hap40 endura after bouncing down a cement embankment a few times and this morning I had to take brake cleaner to it to get most of the grit out of the pivot so it would on fairly easily.

I got a set of scales as a gift from a buddy and sold off my jade ones! I'm pleased with the fit/finish and looks of these scales!

it seems as though everyone's M4's arrived stiff and will allow it to loosen over time. I'm kind of annoyed both of mine did not arrive stiff/tight and I will have to tighten the pivot for my first time  I just don't like how easily the blade falls when I hit the lock when it's open
I had to mess with mine last night. I work at a shop, so I can adjust these in my sleep. However this gave me a super difficult time. After much fidgeting and cussing, I discovered the screw was sticking out slightly from the handle rather than being flush. I walked over to my other pm2 and took a look. The screws were all flush. So I pulled one out and compared the pivots. That's when I noticed the problem, the countersinking on my m4 pm2 g10 was totally off. Not only was it not lined up properly with the hole, it was crooked. I took another knife, stuck it in the pivot hole and began to spin it. Doing this caused the countersink to widen by shaving it down. After Mickey Mousing the hole, the screw finally fit better (but not perfect) and the blade loosened up to its proper tightness. So if any of you are having a super tough time with getting the blade set to its proper tension, take a look at the g10 on the pivot hole closely. I might be able to get my screw to set totally flush, but I'm too afraid to mess it up. Right now it's so slightly uneven from the hole that it's almost unnoticeable.

I had to look it up...

I think it is a nice looking design but personally I prefer the blade length of the PM2 and don't carry anything shorter. I wouldn't mind the RIL but I like the compression lock better.

I definitely love the compression lock. Spyderco really needs to take advantage of that lock and turn it into its own "Axis Lock". Excited to see all the new knives using it (Uroborous!)

Lot of great people here!!

Can this blade handle say a 25 degree edgepro bevel and a 30 degree micro bevel maintained by a sharpmaker for general EDC?

Yes my M4 Millie is probably about 10 dps, with a 15 dps micro.

Cool, next time it needs a real sharpening I'm going to do that. I did mine 15 dps and 20 dps micro. It looses its razor edge pretty fast but still very sharp for anything I need to cut.

While the Mantra has a shorter blade than the PM2 (3.2" vs 3.438") it actually has a longer cutting edge (3.16" vs 3.078").

I usually do 19 degrees per side at 1k grit. M4 is super tough and resilient, so it holds this razor edge well, while the 1k grit gives it amazingly fine slicing ability. Even at that low angle I have no need for a microbevel. I'd only take it up to 23 degrees for really hard work. Any other steel I'd go more towards 25-28 degrees, but M4 will easily handle thinner slicing angles without rolling or giving out.

19deg per side isn't that low of an angle. It's actually more obtuse than a typical factory edge...

Maybe you meant to type inclusive?
