Went to a party last night and brought a decent bottle of Tequila that I didn't try yet...
Mi Familia Reposato Christalino (NOM1459)... Great stuff... Curios detail - they did the Stopper as a small flask with some tequila in it,
neat detail to remember when your guests finish the bottler before you try it 🤣
Host's Tequila was Adictivo Anejo (NOM 1477), probably made in the same factory because it had the same type of stopper and very close to the Mi Familia profile.
Something new I learned about Tequila, maybe beneficial for someone: Every Tequila bottle has NOM Number.
It indicates the factory the particular tequila is made. If you like one brand, you can look it up in the store.
Usually the first two digits of the 4 digits NOM number, will tell you that those two tequilas are coming
from the same factory and have similar profile, you might like... It gives you chance to find/guess the juice you prefer, without actually purchasing a bottle...

Funny update... I was goingto surprise my wife with our upcoming anniversary this month, with one of those two bottles from last night.
Anyway, she went shopping this morning and came back with another bottle of Mi Familia, same Reposado, just not Christalino...
No difference in the taste IMO, just the regular Reposado is about $5 cheaper because they did not remove the color...
So, I guess it'll be a Tequila Weekend in our house, except I'll see my Bourbon Buddies tonight, probably finishing this Sagamore Rye 8yo... 😍

That's a fun way to package it.

I've only been recently interested in quality tequila. I know a few folks who enjoy it and they occasionally convince me to enjoy a neat glass. I think we've talked about this a bit elsewhere... My liquor cabinet is overflowing with whiskey so I haven't been shopping much. I've also been drinking more White Russians in substitute for regular dessert after dinner. 😜

Of course, I usually divert my non-bourbon stuff to "knives and drinks". We'll see what's on the agenda later this evening...

Great lineups on this page Gents ! Knob Creek is such a great Bourbon, absolutely love the fact that they returned the 9 years Old Statement and also released such great Proof variety !
Actually I found out that I ran out of my favorite Knob Creek - Single Barrel Select, it's 120 proof, little bit too strong for me, but you can always pour it over ice or add water,
I just love it's absolutely classic, recognizable Kentucky taste of corn and oak and so on, I'm not very good in describing things, but I know exactly what I like, and KC is just one of those I can always
put side by side with much more expensive stuff and still like it better.

Chronovore Chronovore , Sir, I'm sort of new to the Tequila thing for myself and I'm just starting to explore it. Great stuff, I'd say, learned lots of things about the NOM numbers, very interesting to me is to dig about the factories,
process of making it, why this one is better than other, Mezcal is another one of those, also very interesting to me because of the way Mexico regulates it, it's very close to the Gov standards in US for Bourbon and Rye...

We got together with my Bourbon Buddies last Friday, we hit another good lineup, tried few new Bourbons and continue with some more on Sat night with friend of mine who brought two Chattanooga bottles that
apparently are only sold in Tennessee..

So here we go, Friday night:

ctyEqp.jpg

It doesn't seems something special but... *The Buffalo Trace is Single Barrel, TW selection. I got shocked - this was almost identical to Blanton's !!!
*The Wolcott is bottled for the brand by Barton 1792 ( which I love) and this particular bottle is almost identical to their Full Proof, that won the World Whiskey few years back,
according to the guy that publishes the Whiskey Bible.
*Drifters Glen, I find absolutely delicious Bourbon that will not break the bank and worth trying.
The *10yo RVW is of course good, we finished the last remining of the bottle, but the most enjoyable bottle from all of those was again the *Sagamore 8yo Rye...
It is one of the bottles I will always buy if its available... It is expensive by my books, given I go trough a lot of bottles per month, but a bottle of favorite juice lasts long with me,
when I don't pull it out when have guests, ha ha ha... 🤣 Judging by the pictures I post, it may look like we got hammered every night,
reality is - we just like to try stuff and don't really drink some enormous amounts... 😁😉

But wait, there is more ! 🤣
I just poured a little Scotch on Sat night, hoping for a restful evening...

... when friend of mine stopped by, bringing two bottles from Chattanooga Whiskey:

XGicBY.jpg

The BIB some Special Experimental Blend, and IMO the Star of the Night ---> The Founders 11th Anniversary Blend. 😍

gZ8l3A.jpg

The Founder's bottle is Solera processed, basicaly Infinity juice, compared to the Hillrock's $100+ stuff but it costs around $50... I actually like it better.
They only sell it in their store, its available all the time, but not sold outside Tennessee I would gladly pay to anyone who can buy it from their
store and I can lay my hands on couple of those bottles... It's unbelievable pour, rich, thick flavorful, true Bourbon taste, I don't care about the fact that it's made in Tennessee.
We had great time and almost finished this one...

So all I can say is - I apologize for the long post, but I went trough so many good pours, that I had to share with you Gents, I hope ya'll 🤣 had a great, restful weekend !

And last but absolutely not least, I just don't want to sound political: Salute to our Veterans !
The so much unappreciated true members of our society, forgotten and left behind by you know who... Much respect, thank you for your service,
we owe you everything good that still left in this Great Country ! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Cheers !

POCEH KOCEB POCEH KOCEB I did swing by the liquor store Saturday morning, intending to pick up a bottle of the Sagamore 8yr...but I was unable to find it. I looked it up on their site & noticed that it wasn't available in store for immediate pick-up (their"warehouse" is basically right nextdoor). I was placing my order as I walked out (kicking myself for not completing the order when I started it because it was the only thing I was getting).
I'll probably be close enough to there tomorrow - I'll try to grab it.

Thank you for the replies Gents !
Halfneck Halfneck - I will definitely try to find this bottle as well as the suggested one, thank you for the hint Sir !
My friend that brought de bottles mentioned the price, it could be more as you mentioned it, agreed !

hhmoore hhmoore - Good luck Sir! I'm sure you can come across one... I'm usually looking at my local stores and the only place I buy online is actually Seelbach's
because Blake, the owner (blog - Bourbnr) carry stuff that are not found in stores but are unbelievable stuff ( Check Spirits of French Lick, particularly Mattie Gladden BIB ! ) and they charge around $12-$15 for shipping 1-2 bottles.
I don't trust other stores online, plus, they have waaaay more expensive shipping...

To have fun with good friends and enjoy all those fine spirits is a blessing. I mostly get up to that kind of fun in the summer when I see more of the adult members of my family. Otherwise, it's a glass alone here and there, or with just a friend or neighbor; usually one spirit at a time.

I've been doing more Irish Whiskey lately. Otherwise, scotch and rye rotate with bourbon. I feel like I've got too many open bottles now and I don't do enough drinking. 😜

If this thread is relaxing into general whiskey, I'll post here more often. If anyone would be triggered by an Irish Whiskey in this thread, let me know now!

Here are a few recent samples from my porch...

I could be triggered by seeing Irish Whiskey here... I'm highly impressionable and need an occasional reminder that some of it is pretty good. ;)
Personally, though, I tend to use Knives and Drinks for Irish, rye, tequila, and non-alcoholic refreshments.

Simmilar situation wit us, but we don't have much relatives around, naturally, and some how intentionally 😁
We were very social, tons of local friends, unfortunately few years back I had some medical issues that are preventing me to do the same all the time,
so we mostly meet our good neighbors and friends home, and going out less. Either way, we enjoy decent drinks.

I never look at any drink as "cheap", I like to try new things... I did try some Irish stuff and I like it, but left this area for future exploration 🤣
Scotch and Bourbon are my usual drinks too, lately being shooting Tequila and Mezcal and I like it, I think it goes well with some pickled snacks or meets, pastrami, salami...

I think this would be the correct way but it's ho hard to find the thread especially if nobody posted lately...
I did try to follow the threads but can't always figure it out... I guess I'm dumb that way... 🤣

mrknife mrknife the 7yo HH is probably my favorite !
I don't think I can take your recommendations any longer, my friend. ;)
I can forgive your love of Knob Creek (I do enjoy the single barrel, and the 12 yr is pretty good); but the statement I quoted shows a serious difference in our tastes. I've endured 2 bottles of that Heaven Hill - didn't like the first one but tried it again... partially by accident, partially on the recommendation of another person here...the second was just as hard to swallow.

The bottle about which you inquired is Tumblin Dice. From what I've seen, the single barrel/cask strength (pictured) is typically aged 4-6 years. Distilled in Indiana; so probably LDI or MGP juice.
Never tried it; but both LDI and MGP turn out some stuff I like

I highly value the honesty hhmoore hhmoore and I do catch the irony, of course... This is just fine, we all have different tastes. I enjoy most the interaction with the other members who besides knifes,
enjoy such drinks so I'm perfectly fine with anyone's opinion.
You like KC ? I'll have one 15yo tonight with best wishes for you, my favorite is the Twice Barreled Rye, but I have to finish the "newer" 15yo bottle so I don't think you'd care much what exactly it is in my glass 🤣

Thank you for the tip about the threads, I'll definitely try to go with the rules, I realize for myself that I'm not posting always where it's supposed to be...
Usually I do the forums from my PC, hardly use my phone for such things because I'm used to deal with some other forums on another level and you can't do it over the phone.

Thanks also about the info about the Tumbling Dice, I found it, yes this is MGP stuff. I tend to prefer purists definition about Bourbon, but I drink and love also other juices outside KY.
I'm not going to convince anyone what is good and what - not, it's matter of tests, but huge number of the new brands, started 5-10 years back, are blends from Indiana and they are delicious (and some are vey expensive),
as well as few whiskeys and ryes from Tennessee or other states. Dickel makes blends for companies that sell a bottle for $170, one to name, in their beginning, was Blue Note.
If I remember correctly, Blood Oath (Lux Row), in the first releases was all Indiana MGP blends even they are located in KY, as well as Old Scout (amazing Rye).
Their first Rye release, also Pinhook's first "Bourbon and Rye" ( name of the horse, not what's in the bottle), were all masterfully selected blends from MGP,
but they were so good, that the whole available batch was sold out and it was another about 4 years, before they had a new decent Rye offerings...
Again, I'm not trying to convince you, just saying...

Those two below are the one I'm taking about and I guarantee you, it's impossible to purchase probably even on secondary market,
because the whole batch was sold out to the public when they were trying to establish name. I still have few botles from the Pinhook, purchased about 10 at the time.
The owner actually contacted me on IG, trying to buy some of them, but I didn't do it.
The Old Scout is even better Rye, but again - this bottle is a ghost, you can see it only on pictures, I believe I still have one unopened left, I could be mistaking...
Both blends sourced from MGP, aged in their respective brand name rickhouses.

I agree, the early Old Scout offerings were fantastic.
There are so many new bourbons showing up it can be overwhelming. I like to try some of them...but I don't like gambling on whether I'll like them (and you can't trust reviews and treating notes, lol)

Speaking of reviews and tasting notes, and the reason I mentioned them - Any chance you've tried Koval Single Barrel? Trying that was probably my biggest mistake since I started drinking. I even let it sit for a month at tried to revisit it (I couldn't). I don't think I even consumed an ounce before dumping it.
