Photos Blades on Hikes

Then Friday we went on a longer one, back to the spot on Rainier I posted about a couple of pages back. It's such a fun hike with such stunning scenery that we were itchin' to get back up there and explore some more. No idea how far it was or how high in elevation we got, but it's the farthest I've been up on Rainier yet. The pics can't even begin to capture the scale of the views

Mt Adams and St. Helens in the distance (you can see Mt. Hood as well near the middle, but hard to make out in the pic)

Here's the spot where we stopped last time. This time we were greeted by a herd of mountain goats nearby.

We ended up heading up to where the green vegetation ends in the pic below.

By this point the footing was starting to get pretty sketchy, so we decided we had accomplished enough for this to be a good stopping point for the day

Who ever lived in those stone house were a hardy folk, to try to thrive above the tree line.

There are two women there during the summer, offering meat, cow- and goat cheese, yoghurt, milk and butter. I ate like a king 🙂

People in the past had to bring all their supplies via donkeys up there. This region has gets some serious storms and loads of snow. The quality of foods they produce makes it worth all the hardships.

Hardship, majesty, serenity together - what a holy place, to me at least. The alpine realms have always drawn me, but I only visit and to actually reside in that environment is something extraordinary.

Not a bad spot to be a goat with all of that green salad growing about.

Thanks for showing us this place.
