Thanks Henry. I'm due for a rereading of The Border Trilogy soon, but you made me shudder just now, remembering the grim prison fight sequences in All The Pretty Horses. I guess prison crafted shivs are a kind of well established traditional knife style, if you think about it.

These books seem more fitting to be read in deadtree editions to me, but I've been meaning to download a Kindle copy, just so I can do a word search for all the other traditional knife references that crop up in the narrative.
