Wouldn’t a Rough Rider have been more appropriate for that? Because of the reviewer, not the author…
I read The Sentinel a few months back. I agree with you, it read like a Jack Reacher novel. I enjoy the Reacher novels. They're a quick, entertaining, read. In all honesty, The Sentinel didn't make much of impact on me and I barely remember it. I also read that Lee was turning the franchise over to his brother.I recently read this Jack Reacher book, the first allegedly co-written by Lee Child, who created the Reacher character, and his brother Andrew, who is supposed to eventually take over the "Reacher franchise". Many fans thought the book was a travesty, not at all like previous novels in the Reacher series. But IMHO the Reacher novels are quite formulaic, and this book seemed to follow the formula quite closely.
I've pictured the book with a hobo knife I found at the end of the sporting goods aisle (right across from the cooler with all the cheeses) on a recent grocery shopping trip. It was on sale for under $10, so I couldn't pass it up. Reacher is known for wandering the USA carrying essentially a folding toothbrush and the clothes he's wearing, but I think he'd be well-served by adding a hobo knife to his kit. When times are tough for him and he can't get rides to the nearest diner while hitch-hiking, such a knife could facilitate his eating roadkill when necessary.

Your reaction to The Sentinel is similar to my reaction to most of the Reacher novels. They're enjoyable escapist reading, but I can't remember much about them after I finish reading them, and if you described a plot for one of the books, I'd probably say, "Yeah, that sounds familiar" but wouldn't be able to identify the title or provide many details. But that means I can probably just grab whatever Reacher book happens to be available in the library (or the Little Free Library on a post in a neighborhood I walk through) and enjoy re-reading it, because it would be almost like a new book to me!I read The Sentinel a few months back. Seemingly yes...but actually noWouldn’t a Rough Rider have been more appropriate for that? Because of the reviewer, not the author…
I will confess my ignorance here. What is the significance of a white owl In this context? Rough Rider -> Cuba -> cigars??There is an Owl in Wind in The Willows but I don't believe it was White![]()
oOOOOOoohh…The Ebony knife in my picture is a GEC 68 White Owl from first run 2011.

Thank you Greg. I hope you read the entire poem. It's worth finding it.Love the imagery, particularly the last stanza shown. The knife suits the poem perfectly. Thanks for sharing both!
