Bob Cargill Cripple Creek Knives

More info from the 1st 1984 Smoke Signals. There are some notations made by someone on page 3 but pay no attention to it.
It's just somebody's notes. I realize most of you just like to look at the pictures (like girly mags) but the smart money is in the info.
That's what this thread is for.

The information below pertains to 1984. You might want to make a note of that
if you are saving these to you computer. If you are not saving these, you should be.

Glad to hear that Will. Hopefully folks will start with "page 1" and "read" and look thru each page.
That is how you will be able to tell the difference between an Original Cargill Cripple Creek and
whatever else is out there. Still lots more to come.

I thought I would post this up. It is quite serendipitous as I just shifted the focus of my collection to sowbellys and this thread had me interested in getting my hands on a cripple creek to check out. It is also the gorgeous strawberry bone. I don’t have it in hand yet, but these are the pics from the auction.

Just wanted to let you guys know, I've been going through the old NKCA magazines looking for ads/articles. I've got some ads as far back as 1977. There are a lot of mentions of Bob for winning different knife show display contests, but they don't show the knives or add any substantial info, so I'm leaving those out. When I get a spare moment, I'll scan in all these knife ads for Cargill/Cripple Creek and show them here.

FSU, Is that a 1984? That is Honeybone. Not Strawberry. If that is a 1984 Honeybone, I suggest you look at Levine's Guide info
(page 9) and the 1984 Smoke Signals recently posted and see what you have there. Maybe you already know.

Rookie, Keep 'em comin' !!

Nice grab on that 84!

He hasn't said it was an 84 yet pmek5. I just asked him if it was. Let's wait for him to get back to us. One thing at a time.
Greg

Yes it is an 84. The scales looked very reddish which made me think strawberry, and I did see the documentation posted here and there was no strawberry 3 blade sowbellys listed so I was a bit confused on what it was. You guys are the experts so I guess it is honey bone. It comes with the box, I’ll try to post up better pics when I have it in hand and see if anymore info can be determined from the box. I can’t wait to get this thing in hand and see what all the fuss is about! Learning about them from you guys has been quite fun and interesting.

FSU, Look at the chart to find how many Honeybone 3 blade Sowbelly's were made in 1984. I think you may like what you find.
Hint: Bottom right of the chart above, go up about 4 lines where it says Sowbelly.

I was quite shocked to see there is so few out there. I will never understand why the 3 blade sowbelly stockman hasn’t gotten more love from manufacturers over the years, I find them to be perfection. I would love to have one in strawberry bone, but I’m not a fan of more than 2 back springs in the pattern and it looks like only the 5 blades were offered in strawberry.

A bit of info about the Strawberry Sowbelly posted. Look to the right of the CC logo. The photo doesn't show it well but it's there.
I'll be posting more Buffalo Signals from 1985 and '86 soon. We'll get some more eye candy in here before that tho.
It's also noteworthy to look at the Green River Rendezvous Sowbelly (page 7) blade configuration compared to the ones above.

nice shot Bugdoc ! A white background makes it difficult for a good shot.
Thanks to some good detective work by Mitch regarding the Chief Anderson knives, we find out that there are 15 knives in the series instead of 13.
This knife is what blew the doors off the previous notion that there are only 13.
The information about Chief Anderson knives on page 3 has been updated to show there are 15 knives in the series.
Getting all 15 would be a highly coveted collection.
