Bob Dozier Knives?

Damn... how'd that happen?

Yep, certainly not fair to the maker (who guarantees his work) and also does not reflect well on the poster to throw that out there without a follow up or explanation, imho ...

Nice Delta Traveler BTW.

I will be attending Blade West. I have spoken with Alicia about this about a month ago. I am very excited. Should be fun to see that many Doziers at one time. Although I may have to leave my wallet at home otherwise my fiance would kill me! I already have 4 on order!!!

I had that discussion with Alicia last month as well. It is a perfect excuse to visit Salem and see the family as well.

Good question... I typically only touch my knives up moon sticks, from Idahone inc. Pic below...
However, after two years I finally needed to sharpen my EDC Whittler, I used my Arkansas Stones. Hard and Soft, I was amazed how sharp that knife is now! Not sure how old they are, my dad got them probably back in the 70's. Just be careful of your angle and work slow, don't rush through it. Once an edge is applied, it will hold for a very long time. But like I said the Idahon is really great to get your knife sharpening again without removing any metal. I do that once a month or so. If you want any more info on how to use them let me know, they are pretty simple...

This is a bit OT, but for Oregon Knife Guy, if you are going to Blade West, could you possible do me a favour?

Apparently Bobby Branton is going to be there, and I was wondering if you (or someone else going to the show) could go check out his Raider folder for me?

I have decided to buy one and if someone here could give me an idea of it just by holding it and making a few mental notes, I would be very appreciative.

Thanks
The_Guide

PS. Is it possible to hijack one own thread ;)

The Guide, Yea no problem. I put a note on my phone. Still a long ways out, I will be there probably on Sept. 12th. I will let you know if I find it.

Its in September? oh... lol.. I didnt know that. In our communications he told me he was busy getting ready for Blade so I figured it must be coming soon...

Thanks!

EDIT: Is there a difference between Blade and Blade West?

A bit off topic.......

What do you guys find to be the best method to use for sharpening Dozier's D2?

If ya spent the money for a Dozier spend some money on diamonds to sharpen.

DMT is premier and will take a lot of frustration away from sharpening the harder steels, S30V, D2, etc.. :)

I consider Dozier D2 as best steel available for now.

In my edge retention tests Dozier D2 takes first place keeping every other far behind. So to me this is best steel.

Also it is least noisy manufacturer - did not hear all this screems and crys by fan boys as you may see for others, who are far behind. So he focus on real quality in the shop not "market development".

Also he provides as part of the package best cydex sheath I ever see, he has solid model line and his prices are very good.

I am highly recommend his knives!

This is my review of K30:

Thanks, Vassili.

Great post Vassili.

No gimmicks, no hyped marketing business model to drive up demand and prices.

Hell, if Alicia didn't take some decent pictures, or those sent in by customers, or dealers, looking at the ones on Dozier home page website might be mistaken for something far less, imho.

Tom Krein and Dan Crotts have apprenticed from the same tree.
Both outstanding makers with outstanding designs, skill, value, and humility.

$200 starting, buys a lot of cutting knife (sharp, high hollow grinds, magnificent steel) and a great kydex sheath from any of these guys.

Hey while on the dozier subject, how's the personal wharncliff for small bush tasks? Does anybody have any action shots of this?

After seeing a vast selection, can you recommend a model you've had good luck with?

EDIT: I was looking to order the KS-7 wilderness knife, and the KS-3 Professional Guides knife.

The KS-3

The KS-7

I don't know if I recall correctly but I seem to have read somewhere that the design of the Wilderness knife WAS based from the PGK, only in a longer and more beefed-up package (I think it was Steven Dick of Tac. Knives magazine who gave this input to Bob Dozier, thus the Wilderness model was born).

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong though. . .

I like DMT, sometimes followed by ceramic stones or sticks. Dozier grinds his knives very well, they sharpen up very easily to a razor sharp edge, and keep it for a very long time.

There used to be a saying about D2 - that it takes a lousy edge and holds it a long time. That's only half right, Doziers take a screamingly sharp edge and hold it for a *very* long time.

You are 100% correct.

Currently I am down to 3 Doziers. I kept a Pro Guide, a small drop point Personal and a Folder. These knives are work horses.

The Reverse Tanto is another favorite of mine!
