To be mentally and physically able is the desire behind this, it is the primary driving force to my passion in regards to bodybuilding, (bodybuilding meant literally, not pertaining specifically to standing on stage in a French cut Speedo.)
The building of ones body to perform; to perform at its highest possible standard is and should be a fundamental goal inherent in every individuals living. But as it is, to an extent it is being conditioned out of us as a people; it isnt necessary to strive at being the best.
Through my participation in aiding Shottys process, we struck upon some common truths and desires, one of which being a want to help others on this forum facilitate their dreams; or rather do much as ESEE does give incentives to those willing to perform the tasks needed in the learning of the skill sets oriented around survival.
Without a well maintained / prepared, body and mind; regardless of the newest maxpidition packs and seventy four knives, and assorted tools in your edcd psk and bob your success is hindered.
So heres the deal, 1) you need to post "I'M DOIN IT!" and a desire which you feel your body limits, ex. further better hikes, outdoors time with kids and fam, first accents at Yosemite, running a marathon whatever, 2) post or pm a before picture, weight, feelings thoughts to reflect on after completion,
3) post a goal weight
4) after pictures, weight and thoughts
During this, every week you need to post an update for everyone on how the diet, exercise, training is going, challenges . Whatever; just keep us updated.
Keep the updates in the challenge thread.
Lots of good things up for grabs, Ill let Shotty list them off for you guys.
Shotty and I will judge this, in the case of a tie we will bring in someone to determine the winner.
THIS IS NOT JUGDED PURELY ON WEIGHT LOSS, so dont go out and try to dump a ton of weight and expect to win. Rapid weight loss, drugs, and any other short cuts arent going to get you anything aside from ill health.
This may change a bit, we just wanted to get this out there for you guys.
During this contest feel free to ask questions; be eager to learn and make progress. Shotty and myself will help to the best of our ability, anyone entered, to make their goal happen.
This is the contest page
members keep your updates photos and so forth to be judged in this thread
no chit chat just those in the comp.
feel free though as a forum fam. encorage and aid them, but please send it in private messages
Dang, a gun show.
There is a bench press competetion at our gym in 4 weeks...I am questioning if I should compete or not. There isn't a chance I can even place in the top three. There are 3 guys that I know can bench double their weight and I am not there yet.
I'm in. If only I could enter this retroactively, hahah. Anyway, my current physical goals are as follows...
Last time I got checked officially (Feb 1, 2010) I was:
6' 2"
209 lbs
12.2% BF
By August 25, 2010 I would like to have accomplished the following:
-Ability to do 10 pull-ups continuous
-Ability to do 50 pushups continuous
-Sub 10% BF
-Sub 7 minute mile
The only reason that I'm so specific on the goal date is because it will be the two-year anniversary of my decision to become healthier. I had been obese/morbidly obese pretty much my entire life, and I had no idea just how negatively it had been affecting my life until I started to change things for the better. Everything from reduction in social ineptitude to getting a better job (currently leading backpacking/kayaking/outdoors trips part time, hopefully full time in the future) are becoming possible.
A couple of words for everyone in this thread that I've come to appreciate over the last year and a half:
1. Time is always on your side, because ultimately you've got time to change. The goals are important to set, but unless it's for a contest/event/physical, it matters little whether you achieved your goal in 8 months or 9 months (or 2 years versus 2.5 years).
2. Support is important, whether it is someone you can confide-in in real life or the other members of this group here. No one is strong 100% of the time, especially not under duress, and just having someone to talk to can so often make the difference.
3. People are people. You'll probably "mess up" from time to time...eat something you weren't planning to, miss a workout. Everybody does. This really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things (see point one), and the best thing to do is to get over it immediately and move forward.
Seriously, though, those three tenets have helped me out tremendously on my journey so far.
Photo on the left I was approximately ~48% BF and over 380lbs. Photo on the right I took this morning.

Much luck to you all! You've got every reason to succeed, and I'm sure that you will.
Great idea! I've done a little bodybuilding, and I am NASM certified personal trainer. If anyone has any questions, I'd be glad to help!
KNIFEABILITY- A must for all humans
Knife I have been having pain in my chest muscles not like my heart under them, but just the muscle, this is normal right? I am as of last night doing less push ups, to see if that helps, and may substitute more with swimming to change it up a bit.
Have you heard of other people in gym using p90x? Alot of the people I know who've used it continue the exercises and have lost more than their weight loss goals, and have maintained the loss thus far, some for almost 2 years or more since they started, one friend started in 05, and went from a 360 to 180 something and has stayed there, and ended up achieving a goal, he wanted to be fit enough to become an officer.
Can you suggest any exercises for the neck? Closest gym is about 30 miles away, and only gym equipment I have is a bowflex I just got, trying to minimize space use.
Anyone here doing Yoga?
No no not me, a few other people I know have used that program, most of the routines were rooted in football and school p.e. class style exercises. I have been seeking a better guided program, and with 20-30 people i know across the nation who use to be class mates, to ex co-workers doing the program p90x and plus, and or insanity. Have reach their goals phenomenally. So guided sessions like from the dvds seem to be in order, especially since I am bogged down alot with work and school, I rarely have a chance to miscly drive 30 or so miles to gym.
And I will try those for my neck.
I think its also tension built up because of classes and work. Which is common for most people I think.
doing shrugs, shoulders, and back keeps my neck pretty thick
