Ah well I think I like everyone else just comes to point where we all know at that particular moment, its time for a change. After I get to where I want, another goal of mine is to serve, which branch however, is another thing for me to look into and meditate on.

And Knife, its just, I saw pics of how I use to be in uniform in hs, or riding my bikes, what really hit it on the nails head for me? Was how my Mrs looked, and how like with wine, shes gotten better with even more time ;P I still count myself fortunate to have such a woman who doesn't stand behind me through all my shit storms and troubles, but beside me. Every step of the way, always pushing me, always trying to get the best from me.

Doesn't hurt she loves guns, automobiles, and bikes....most stuff...I happen to like very much :D Hahahaha.

But honestly? Its like, How did I get here? My own self to blame, no one else. Where do I wanna go and be at? Its ganna take hard work to get there.

My Mrs' also got me some spartacus, 300, and etc related shirts from cafe press, I'm pretty stoked, well not true, she got me 2 of each, right now in XXL, and second set in M cause thats what I use to were, and let me tell you, those shirts? SHRINK after a few washes :)

Shrugs are hard to beat for traps.

shrugs, upright rows, bent over rear flys, all work the traps pretty good. Lately I've been switchn it up, I've been using a medium-heavy weight (olympic bar or dumbells) and holding the contraction for 4 seconds each rep. burns out the traps real good. traps are funny, I see guys doing shrugs with a shitload of weight and shitty form, they wonder why their traps dont grow. you really gotta concentrate on pushing the blood through.

Two years ago I was at 250lbs and I am 6'1". I started walking around a lake near my house which is 2.6 miles. After a year I was down to 205lbs. After two years I am still at 205 but I do this 5 to 6 times a week weather permitting and I feel great and am in better shape than a lot of the younger guys I work with and my wife likes me with my weight down. As long as you burn more calories than you take in you will lose weight and can still eat pretty good. It usually takes me 35 to 40 minutes to do my power walk and that is after working on a construction site all day and at 58 years old believe me I feel better than I ever have. No prizes for me I just wanted throw my 2 cents worth in because this works for me.

Hey crowdog, I was wondering, suggest any good running shoes? been looking at asics, new balance, nike, and not to sure what to get, I use new balance for casual jogging and at work, but I am noticing if I start trying to run constantly after 8-10 miles on the tred instead of outside? Archs hurt like hell, not sure if I should get dr sholls, or another replacement for the inside :\

Can you suggest any supplements to get, like brand wise for protein? Was at mothers market and the wall was to huge for me to really narrow it down, and I didnt want to ask the sales lady because shes this old old woman, who frankly I don't think can suggest properly anything.

I'm starting to feel more burnt out then I did in HS, maybe cause I'm getting older, but I don't want to do what I did in hs and go eating pasta, and etc like we all use to do at each others houses after football :(

I don't know if my body would like that lol.

My workout shoes are Asics, with some nice cushioning insoles. I have issues with my left knee. Probably my patella being rough. But, these help a lot. If your arches are hurting, you might want to see a doctor about getting proper made insoles.

A treadmill will always have a harder feel than outside IMO. I run on the balls of my toes outside, but inside I land hard on my heel, so it increases impact. I generally try NOT to run on a treadmill if I can help it. I'd rather use an elliptical than a treadmill any day...

Supplements will vary depending on what you're trying to achieve. I use Optimum Nutrition(ON). It's a nice whey protein. I use it for after/during workout nutrition. My roommate uses it to just increase his protein intake overall. Go to a specialized place and get their suggestions. Yes, they'll try to upsell, sell in general and such, but GNC, MaxMuscle and such all know their stuff... Go in and explain what you do to workout, what your goal is, and such, and they can explain what they would suggest.

I know I'm not crowdog but, hey, it helps!

Thanks!

Hi LittleSpartan, finding the correct running shoe is liken to most other things in life in that it is completely subjective; and with it not being my foot or me having specific information on size, shape, or conditions that are individual to your feet, I cant tell you which shoe will be a good running shoe for your foot. But what I can do is suggest some companies that have worked for me and others I know; personally I wear Nike shocks and they work well for my needs, although I need to make mention that running is not something that is a common part of my life currently, so if it were, then my satisfaction with the Nikes may be subject to change; furthermore I don’t necessarily agree with Nikes policies in regard to morally ethical production practices; I was given these and they have held up for 3yrs now, would I spend the money and thus support them in that manner as a company? Most likely not.
I have heard personally good things about the Vibram Fivefinger Shoes for running, the pair in mention looked as though they had seen a lot of miles, and were wore by an avid runner and member of track. He said they were great and eleveated a lot of the normal pains that occurred with other traditional shoes. I would look into what track and competitive runners choose to wear as their running shoe, then search around the brands and find what you think would work best for fulfilling your desires. I will say this though, be cautious when sorting the chaff of advertising, some runners prefer no shoes, and wearing the wrong shoe can lead to injury.
Supplements are another thing that is rather subjective to your individual desires, I normally recommend as a starter stack (a slang term within bodybuilding referencing additional substances you ‘stack’ atop normal diet and training) first and foremost, A good “one a day multivitamin” and “Fish oil, enteric coated or you will have fish burps” Next comes protein sources; FOOD, Try to get a good amount of your needs from natural, unrefined sources. Protein powders are supplements, not 80% of your daily foods so aim for high protein foods, chicken, beef, deer, fish etc. then use protein powders to fill in the gaps. http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/proteinfinder.htm That is a fair place to order from, I have received a good deal of items from them, they were quick and well priced, they are very cool about throwing in freebees and such.
I have tried a lot of different protein blends and brands, which most all were dictated by my situation; when I was going through a poor period I would buy the cheapest stuff available which was egg and milk unflavored whey, lol the smell was terrible the taste became tolerable; people in the gym were disgusted by it. Now I enjoy BSN syntha 6 strawberry. Or Dynmatize chocolate peanut butter. Here is another link, in this one you can find TONs of information on varying types of protein forms and other supplements and their intended function. Inform before consenting, some of this stuff can be dangerous if not taken appropriately.http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bbmainsupp.htm
I really suggest buying first and foremost from your local dirty floored meathead gyms and secondly offline prior rather than shopping at any chain stores such as GNC or Walmart; look for your self at the price differential, GNC pricing is substantially higher and Walmarts selection is very limited to 6star and another equally shitty tasting brands (personal opinion)

+1 on bodybuilding.com. If you go to GNC you're getting raped. I personally go to a local supplement store that caters to weightlifters, thier prices are on par with bodybuilding.com. I also use ON whey protein. Muscle milk uses inferior proteins and other crap that makes it taste like it does. In the morning I take a ON oatmeal whey shake-loaded with carbs and post workout and before bed I take regular ON whey protien blended with ice, milk, and sometimes Peanut butter. If there is one other supplement to look into, its EXTEND. Its a blend of amino acids (building blocks of proteins) -drink that during workouts. doesnt give your muscles time to go diabolic-(basically feeding off themselves)

The watermellon and grape flavors owned my world during contest prep. +10

When dieting really hard it can make the difference in keeping that hard earned muscle mass. During normal off season diet I prefer to save my money.

I take it because I'm a carpenter and its really hard to keep my muscle mass when its like 95 degrees outside and I'm hauling ass framing a house or whatever. Doing that type of work all day and hitting the gym at night, I really need to eat a S-load of protien. the extend definitly helps, but it is pricey.

Hey Mad respect for making the gym within the rigors of life! Its hard, and you seem to have an idea of what works for your lifestyle's specific needs.

AM: Not crow indeed*** hahaha jk! Thanks for the input!

CrowDog: Wow! Thank you so much Crow! Well I want to build more muscle to burn more fat, spring break just hit, so I am a bit off for relaxation, I ran quite a bit furthers than I intended to last night, but ipod was just thumping out music I forgot to track time, and kept going. I am at 294 oddly, meaning I gained 4 pounds, but could be muscle. I have been eating brown rice, with beans cooked into it, cup formed and pressed. meatless cashew chicken, and or sweet and sour pork, and etc items from a vegan place barely 10 mins slow walk, and a 3-4 minute run away. Been eating pretty healthy. trying to find better food source options, like cleaner beef and chicken, theres a few food places nearby I will check out like healthy foods, mothers market, etc. As soon as I finish off my food stocks, I will slowly start shifting into their place healthier and cleaner foods, so I'm slowly getting stuff done :) As for GNC, I will wait off, I will take my bike to the closest albet far gym, just to see what some of those guys are using, and such. I don't want to get to bulked, just enough to help burn faster, as well, be able bodied, because I want to return to shape of which I was in HS way back when. Do you know anyone who works hard at the gym but is vegan? Just curious.

Dcycle: You put actual peanut butter in the blender? Does the drink become thick?

CD and DC: Thanks guys so much! And DC, you are inspiring, its why I keep doing what I am doing, its like why are you complaining? There are other guys out there, working even harder during the day! And still going at it! Shut up! Suck it up! And DO IT! Thats what my mean voice in my head tells me ;) On a side note, Bowflex is nothing like Gym equipment, its weird and I'm barely getting used to it lol. Ugh.

He's right GNC has the highest prices. Optimum Nutrition is probably the best supplements for the money. I use ON Pro Complex, great blend of different proteins, Muscle Milk on the other hand is based on soy protein, not so good.

QUOTE]

I know of a few professional bodybuilders who were vegan, personally I do not know anyone who is vegan though; although I was vegitarian for 13yrs 3 of those years were while I was also bodybuilding.

Spartan- Nope, like a table spoon of PB in a vanilla whey shake gives you more calories and tastes awesome, doesnt really thicken the shake.

So, I was 190.8 this morning, which isn't too bad seeing as I ate horrible and didn't work out last week at all. I injured my knee again and it's been in a brace. I need to set up a dr appoitment to get it looked at closer. I ate food bad by my diet standards, but not by overall standards.

I'm cutting down on crap food to counteract my non working out.

I might post more later when I'm not in class on my iPhone. :-D

thanks!

I don't know if I posted earlier in this thread, but a couple of weeks ago I decided to run to get my stamina up. I wasn't in for the weight loss (I'm 6 feet 170 pounds), so I haven't significantly lost any weight ( 2 pounds).
Still, I can now run 4 miles straight, without getting muscle aches. I can run a lot longer before really having to stop, but I haven't measured. 4 miles takes me 30 minutes. I'm running a competition Wednesday (3,5 miles), and I think I should finish okay. My condition is a lot better than before.

I'm not going to enter, since I don't have before pics, and I wouldn't really care to share them if I did. That, and you can't even see a change. Just got a better pair of legs now :)
Thanks for the encouragement, though.
