Book of Eli

Like said before everyone has there own taste. But I mention earlier reviews aren't accurate either. District 9 received 90% + on Rotten Tomatoes. Which is a high rating. IMo if it was rated low and I watched it on Bluray, I would figure it was okay which nothing else to do. But I expected alot more. Book of Eli I will like because I like those types. Other will hate it. Knives, guns and a few boobs make a movie to me. :D

Um. I see. Rent "Zombie Strippers" then.

So what is a good movie?

Recently?

The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Zombieland, District 9, Up...all were pretty damned great.

The release got jerked around alot. The Weinsteins decided to extend the post-pro, thinking it would make a better film, and then they pushed to release date back even further in order to make it more of an Oscar contender.

If you have not seen it, see Boondock Saints.

and has anyone seen Boondock Saints 2 All Saints Day? It had a limited release and I have heard nothing about it.

I am going to try to see Book of Eli this week.

I saw The Boondock Saints.
I own it too. Cool movie.

The documentary on how it was made - the one that makes the director out to be an incompetent drunk - is actually much better.

See The Road.

will definitely watch The Road. The book of eli... I might get around to it. Maybe if a friend downloads it or something :P Just looked like way too much of the same old hollywood thing, which has been failing a lot for me recently. Not to mention Denzel is hardly ever anyone but Denzel in his movies...

Then I stand corrected. How were the shoot'em-ups in the movie? How many guns? What types?:D

Mismatch baker's dozen, little bit of everything from beat up old saw off shotgun to a couple of M-16's and some pistols. No uniform "issue", which would fit a scavenger situation like that.

Nice shot of of a CZ 550FS rifle in a rooftop guards hands!

Anyone get a good enough look at Eli's 9mm to tell what make it was?

The old couple with the gun stash were hilarious!!! :D

Was gonna go see this but ended up seeing Daybreaker, haven't laughed so hard in a while. I'll probably be checking this out this coming weekend.

The Road is an awesome movie but kinda depressing, the book is a fantastic read.

I love Boondock Saints, everytime i put on a pea coat i wanna walk out of a church and light a cigarette. I wasn't aware that the squeal came out already, thought it was going to be released in early 2010.

Lot's of great movies listed here. I thought Eli was really good. Really explores the aspect of faith. Our ability to believe in something unseen goes back to our collective consciousness, and our ability to persevere as a species. I thought it was a good take. Not sure all the bibles could ever be eradicated, but living in a faithless world of the future is not too far off. We don't live in a clockwork universe, a very outdated concept. We live in a thought universe. Mathmatically proven!! Newtonian concepts only work for billard balls, not living systems. :D

FWIW, in "I Am Legend", Will Smith was not powering his house off of the grid. The movie showed that he had was using several generators. It also showed several jerry cans around his place, and he had a few on the roof of his SUV, indicating that he would periodically go out and scavenge gas to power them.

The detail that bugged me the most about "I Am Legend" is that Will Smith carried his AR around with him, but he would leave his pistol in the car. And his knife was an OTF automatic? If I were living in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, I'd make damn sure I had a sidearm on my person at all times, in addition to my rifle. As well as a fixed blade.

I love post-apocalyptic movies. Picking apart the little details is actually my favorite part. I'll have to disagree with Boats about the "Mad Max" series being the gold standard of detail accuracy though. In a world where the most precious commodity is gasoline, would you really want your goons out driving around in circles in hotrods all the time, wasting said commodity? That's like staging a bank robbery where the bad guys try to get through the vault door by burning piles of cash.

On second thought, I'm trying to think of a film that's more accurate, but nothing's coming to mind. They're all pretty flawed.

I couldn't see in the movie, however in one of the stills from the homepage it looks like a Jericho or Baby Eagle...

pistol was a Heckler & Koch HK45
Eli (Denzel Washington) carries a weathered Heckler & Koch HK45 pistol. Even though the pistol had just been out a year when the film was made, the filmmakers wanted it to look like an antique vintage firearm (as this film take place in the future). The brand new HK45 was sanded and worn down to look very old for the film. In true movie fashion, Eli fires about twice as many rounds as the pistol can hold before reloading.:D

I agree with you that ideas are the highest order of the universe - higher than that of matter and energy, which are just ideas themelves - but I don't find the term 'clockwork' to be inappropriate. The world, after all, is no more chaotic than we choose to make it, and there appears to be an order to things, if not an explicitly scientific one...

Uh oh, I'm getting philosophical again...anyone have a super-soaker?

Oh, and see The Road. :D

I want to BAD.

Not in theatres anywhere around here. I cannot even find a DVD release date.

Why the hell is it such a limited release?!?:mad::mad:

saw it, very good movie, no real action but great story and as far as what the world would be like seemed like they nailed it.:thumbup:

Well I was out to lunch, wasn't I??? Granted I was basing it on a small pick of the front of the slide only, and I am down to one eye right now as I had surgery for a retinal tear - not the best for making visual judgements.;)

I sure glad that I'm happily married right now and not counting on vision to help me pick up a sweetie at the bar...

Yeah I almost forgot about Eastern Promises that was a good one might have to go rent it again, remembering these movies tells me I really need to see The Road.
