Do you think that a $395 knife should ship without an additional fee of almost $8 for shipping?

I ordered an Olemic Wayfarer 247 from Knife Center back in March. They were back ordered, but their website said 'Early April' delivery. Then, they changed it to 'Early May' delivery. Every time I called them, some woman of negotiable affection kept telling me they 'expected to have the knife in stock in 'about two weeks'. Two weeks would go by, and I would call them again, and I would again be told that they 'expected to have the knife in stock 'in about two weeks'.

Obviously, they were LYING to me, stringing me along with their LIES. so I wouldn't cancel my order. I HATE being LIED TO more than just about anything else.

It finally shipped on May 17th. That's NOT 'Early May'. It's not even the first HALF of May

Because the $395 knife was back ordered. I never saw that those children of unmarried parents were going to charge me $7.77 for shipping. Had I known that BEFORE the knife shipped, I would have cancelled the order, and bought it elsewhere.

But I didn't get the E-mail showing that Simon Legree charged me almost $8 for shipping, until AFTER it was shipped. I was NEVER INFORMED of this additional pound of flesh that Uriah Heep extracted from me. I wasn't EVER even given the OPPORTUNITY of having informed consent of this additional substantial charge.

I feel that the money was STOLEN from me, under false pretenses. I did NOT give consent for this additional charge

You BET I'm really PISSED about this.

Yeah. Me thinks you should have read the site better. And delays happen. You werent lied to. But if you want to cling to you sense of entitlement thats your right. I however feel you are more to blame than knifecenter. And they really dont care if you want to cancel your order. You just failed to do so.

You need to review the terms of sale if you care. The shipping catches me sometimes with Amazon when I specifically ordered more than their minimum $ to get the free shipping (I thought). Whether or not you know it, you are paying for the shipping. It is often built into the price. Just compare similar pricing at multiple online knife establishments... the difference is often shipping (and handling) whether you like it or not. I would generally rather pay for shipping than get "free shipping" that includes smart post or something similar. But sometimes, a few days makes no difference to me one way or the other.

I doubt "they" were lying about when the item would be in stock. They are dependent the factory or distributors and don't really know... just have a general idea.

No offence man but why would you assume there is free shipping unless it is advertised? Try living in Australia, it costs about $70 (Aus dollars) for a busse to be shipped here ;)

I payed $455 for mine and had $45 shipping. Then I had to pay $70 in tax. Cry me a river.
Lol my most recent was $72 USD postage, then it got stopped in customs and I got slugged $126 AUD tax then they kindly charged me $92 AUD for the time it took them to process my $126 tax!!

I think we're really spoiled by UPS, FedEx, and a pretty efficient US postal system in terms of cost and reliability. I buy things from one particular merchant monthly and they ship "free" via UPS. The predictability and time factor really amazes me sometimes. I still reference back to the old days when things would be packed and shipped within a week and you receive within the following week.

First, you need to consider the knife you ordered. Olamic (not "olemic" btw) makes their knives in small batches. They apply a lot of near custom finishes and options, even on the 247. You should have been aware that the knife you were ordering might be subject to the production schedules of a small shop. KnifeCenter has little way of knowing which models Olamic will be producing and shipping.

Second, if you want a guarantee of free shipping, use Amazon Prime.

I can't take your complaint seriously with all the hyperbole in your discourse. You really come across as an entitled whiner.

Enjoy your knife.

I'm confused, you spend almost $400 for a knife and are complaining about $8 for shipping? You can't really ship anything over 13 oz (first class mail) that won't cost at least $8. That's actually pretty cheap shipping. Did the seller say it was free shipping? You didn't "pay" shipping at the time of purchase? I'm really confused what your beef is. $8 shipping is a very reasonable cost for shipping.

If it was in stock and said free shipping on the web page, of course you should get free shipping.
If their website says any order over $99 gets free shipping, you should get that too. Unless it is some loophole like an offer that expires every week or two that they keep renewing, then any backorder would have to pay for shipping if it is past that date of expiration. That is just one of those shady things companies do.
Backorders, sometimes they take longer than they expect. It happens a lot and they don't have much control over it, the knife maker would I would assume.
At least it was not $20+ shipping cost. $8, and you just bought a 400 dollar pocket knife.
All in all, I order from knife center all the time and have had great experiences!!

I've literally shipped over 25000 (yes you have read that correctly, over 25K!) packages through the USPS in the last 10 years and I will certifiably state that not one single time, they offered me to ship my items to anywhere for free!

Case in point, the cost of shipping is never free and it is either baked into the price or you will be charged on top. I have noticed that "free shipping" is more commonplace among knife sellers but that does not make me feel entitled to free shipping practices and offers from every single seller. If you think that I have never paid for shipping and am preaching from my high perch, you will be wrong too! Just in the last month I purchased a Wilson Combat version of the CRK Umnamzaan which I paid 9.95 for UPS shipping on top of the 459 retail price. The difference, I knew that there would be a shipping charge by W.C.

OP, I get your frustration, but to answer your Q: no, you are not entitled to "free shipping" on every single knife purchase but agree that you should've known or should've had asked ahead of the time in order to decide whether to place your order, go through with it or to cancel it. Most of the blame for your frustration also falls on you for making a sweeping assumption!

Is the OP not joking about this?

Not the being strung along, that is a valid complaint (it seems to happen though) but the 8 $ shipping. That must be a joke.

Doesn't matter if it is a $400 knife or $4000 knife. $8 is still $8. However, the question that really matters is whether KC promised to do "free shipping." If it does not, then the OP's complaint is invalid.
