Do you think that a $395 knife should ship without an additional fee of almost $8 for shipping?

I ordered an Olemic Wayfarer 247 from Knife Center back in March. They were back ordered, but their website said 'Early April' delivery. Then, they changed it to 'Early May' delivery. Every time I called them, some woman of negotiable affection kept telling me they 'expected to have the knife in stock in 'about two weeks'. Two weeks would go by, and I would call them again, and I would again be told that they 'expected to have the knife in stock 'in about two weeks'.

Three quick things:
1) The KnifeCenter folks are members here, when you contact them you should share what you have publicly called one of their employees. She's probably someone many of us have dealt with many times.
2) Its Olamic, is it not?
3) Why didn't you post this in GBU?

Why was the post made at all?
If you have a problem with a company.
Take it to the company. Give them a chance to do right by you.
If they tell you to go pound sand, then bring it here. ( maybe)
We might not be able to help but we would like to know.
People always want to post the bad, how about posting when all goes better then expected?

All over a $8 shipping charge, on a $400 knife....lol

"Those children of unmarried parents" do you think it is necessary to make deragatory remarks to people you do not even know. I have found that calling someone and discussing issues like an adult in a respectful manner produces better results. Also you are assuming that they lied to you about when they would receive the shipment, there are a lot of variables and were most likely giving you information that they were told by the manufacturer.

Honestly being told 2 weeks then 2 weeks again is nothing compared to some horror stories I've heard about backlogged high demand knives where people have waited 2 years only for the maker to fall off the face of the earth.

To complain about 8 dollars on 395 dollar transaction is little off, but doesn't KC clearly state free shipping after $95?
This thread is kinda confusing to me.

I was going to order from them twice before, same thing both times. They informed me it would be $45 shipping to Canada, this added cost did not include any possible taxes or duty charges at the border. Their website said shipping to canada from $9.95, I have no idea what you could order that shipping would only be $9.95 if one knife would cost $45? I could not find anywhere on their site that detailed shipping costs to Canada at the time. I inquired about the charges and didnt get a satisfactory answer so I didn't order the first time and cancelled my order the second. There were no issues in doing so. I however have given up on them and order elsewhere.

Obviously, they were LYING to me, stringing me along with their LIES. so I wouldn't cancel my order. I HATE being LIED TO more than just about anything else.

It finally shipped on May 17th. That's NOT 'Early May'. It's not even the first HALF of May

Because the $395 knife was back ordered. I never saw that those children of unmarried parents were going to charge me $7.77 for shipping. Had I known that BEFORE the knife shipped, I would have cancelled the order, and bought it elsewhere.

But I didn't get the E-mail showing that Simon Legree charged me almost $8 for shipping, until AFTER it was shipped. I was NEVER INFORMED of this additional pound of flesh that Uriah Heep extracted from me. I wasn't EVER even given the OPPORTUNITY of having informed consent of this additional substantial charge.

I feel that the money was STOLEN from me, under false pretenses. I did NOT give consent for this additional charge

You BET I'm really PISSED about this.
Look, you dropped ~400 bones on a knife, I'm not feeling real bad for you that you had to pay some shipping. Suck it up and deal with it. You could have saved yourself a lot of grief by looking at a few different retailers and maybe contacting them BEFORE you bought the knife.
No one feels bad for you, stop whining.
And as to the fact that they were "lying" to you, sometimes shit happens. Maybe they couldn't get the knives delivered and they were doing everything they could to get them. If you were really as upset as you claim to be, you could/would have cancelled the order at anytime in the apparently several weeks that it took to get the knife.
Plus, YOU GOT THE KNIFE DIDN'T YOU!?! YEAH? THEN SHUT UP!
Just to reiterate:
No one feels bad for you about your 8 dollars
You could have cancelled the order at any time
You should have done some research before buying the knaf from KnifeCenter (especially if they had it on back order...smh)
And last but not least, please stop your incessant whining

Doesn't matter if it is a $400 knife or $4000 knife. $8 is still $8. However, the question that really matters is whether KC promised to do "free shipping." If it does not, then the OP's complaint is invalid.
In fairness, I just checked and the Olamic is currently being offered with free shipping from Knife Center. Ultimately, 8 bucks in shipping is just nothing to get overly upset about it. If the shipping cost was a deal breaker on a 400 dollar knife, you probably shouldn't be buying a knife.
Knife Center is an iffy at best retailer, and someone buying a knife of this caliber from them would have done well to contact them before completing the transaction.

My 5 cents as the online seller (RussinaKnives.com)...

As all re-sellers, we are working with fix margins and free shipping sometimes could be 10-15% or more of our profit. It adds up to good money by the end of a year...

So we have to make a decision on what kind of promo we can offer to you (our potential buyer): free Priority shipping, special discount, or other...

For example, at RussianKnives.com for the exchange to your email address (if you subscribe to our newsletter), we will email you the code for free shipping
AND discount code AND as a blade forums member, you have another promo... So now it is YOUR decision on which promo you want to use today...

I think $8 shipping charge is very reasonable for this excellent knife...

if it wasn't implied that you would get free shipping, why would you assume that?
KnifeCenter says it on their website the shipping is free on orders over $95. Of course big items would not qualify for this like swords, spears, basically big and heavy items.
