I don't remember ever ordering from knifecenter, but most websites that I've bought from (not just knives, but everything else under the sun) offer multiple options for shipping. Sometimes shipping is free, some times it's a few bucks, some times they want $35 for UPS 2 day. Perhaps the OP didn't choose the free shipping option?
 
My money is on this suggestion......there were options offered on different shipping choices.
He might not have chosen anything and got the default??
KC is not my favorite dealer, but never had anything like this happen.

Going to close this now. If some KnifeCenter folks want to respond, they should report the thread and ask for it to be reopened.
