Amanda just got her first bowdrill fire! I came home from work and she had some materials gathered and she made it happen!

So pumped right now!

I'll tell you what hoss, you just go ahead and send me.one of them there knives and I'll test it out for ya. I can do a whole write up on how cripple freindly the knife is.:D

This is an awesome idea :D rofl this had me going for a while. Two pieces of advice 1) try a new RPG. Those are crazy time killers. 2) if you are really dead set on a cigar, make sure you get something super light, don't try to finish it all or you'll make yourself sick, and have a drink handy (something with a strong taste. I like rum or bourbon :D)

Sweet little tomahawk you got there Warrior ;) or at least it looks that way in your mitts bud.

Lol WW, I've done the trip to florida from up here with a 2 and 4 year old :P I know how it is. Good luck!

Congrats to Amanda! I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow. I'd love to relax by a fire about now!

Awesome Dres! Very cool!

Had a pretty decent find today, Western USA what I am assuming to be a model W66. Could be wrong I am not all that knowledgeable about Western USA blades. Was not too oversharpened, handle is in really good shape, spine is a bit rough, but its a lot better than a lot of the knives I find. The other day I found a whole case of Western, Schrade etc, old hunting knives rusted to crap, but still had plenty of blade left. However, the guy was convinced he had something super fantastic, amazing, and rare and had priced them like they were the last ones in existence and they cured cancer... Needless to say he wouldn't budge... some folks are like that... next week they were gone so I can only assume someone/s thought they found the holy grail. Seems to happen a lot around here. "Hey what are you asking for this?" Typically followed by "Well thats a really really old piece so I am going to have to ask a firm million for it...." Old does not equal worth money lol O well, cant miss out on something you never had. Anyways, rant over, here's the piece... just needs an edge and a bit of a buff.. and a new sheath :D

I have a question for you guys, I turn 18 in a couple months and have been thinking of celebrating it with a cigar. Never smoked before so was wondering what you guys reccomend

Best recommendation? Dont smoke! You dont have to ever quit what you dont start :D lol Cannot say that enough... However, I know you are soon to be 18 and are looking to expand your horizons, I was smoking LONG before I was 18 and what not but, if you must lol. Go to a cigar shop and have a look around, smell, ask, etc etc. I used to really like the brand called Acid by Drew Estate... they make delicious flavored cigars... other wise, there is a brand called "Punch" that makes a good entry level type cigar. Otherwise walk down to your local spit and scratch and get a flavored Swisher Sweet. Not like the more expensive ceegars but a lot less spendy, taste good etc etc...

And congrats on not smoking before 18! Not all that common, especially in Oklahoma. It's not a fun habit to have to put down later in life, but I dont think there is anything wrong with having one every blue moon. I sure as heck miss it! lol.

Yes. that is a W66 (pattern 66 blade with a wood handle). With that WESTERN over USA stamp, there should be a model number stamped on the guard. When Western first started putting model numbers on their knives (about 1955), they stamped them on the pile side of the ricasso. IN 1968, they started putting them on the guard. Western dropped the reference to Boulder, Colo. on their stamps in 1972/1973, depending on the model and replaced it with USA. In 1977, Western moved the whole stamp back to the Mark side and started stamping a year code letter ("A", the "B" in 1978, ...) as part of the stamp. So your knife was made between 1972 and 1977.

Find a newspaper and roll a dog turd up in it.
Save yourself a few bucks...because they all tast like crap! Lol

From what ive had I like Gurkha's and Sosa's. Gurkha has alot of different styles and flavors. All good IMO. Ive only had one style of Sosa but they were very good. Though if I was you id take the money you were going to spend on one a good cigar and have somebody buy you a couple 40 ozers.:D

Online stores have lots of great sampler packs for cigars. If you want alot of variety in strengh's/flavors would get a Gurkha sampler pack.

First off....you shouldn't smoke....it's bad for you!

That said, my last few years of college and my first couple years as a young Army Lieutenant, I was buying cigars mail order from a cigar company in Florida. They had some good sampler packs as mentioned by Ulf. One thing to remember is that "usually" the fatter a cigar is, the cooler (and milder) it smokes. Darker ones have more flavor than lighter ones as well, so take that into consideration.

Disclaimer: I am in no way an expert on this subject. I also preferred the ones with a natural wrapper.

Congrats to her! I haven't tried a bow drill since I was about 13 (40 years ago)...maybe it's time to try again...

Edit: I was sure that ZZ would be by to lay some wisdom on us.... He did not disappoint!

Yeah, personally I've never smoked, but have alot of friends that smoke and dip on a constant basis. Never really made sense to me. And like you said I don't plan on making it a habit, just thought it would be a neat way to celebrate legal becoming an adult, plus it's alot cheaper than buying a firearm :D

Hoss, what did you think of the condors? I'll ask here, shoot it's the snark thread. We talk plenty about other knives. Cause I highly doubt they will outperform the Beckers. Simply based on my experience with them, however for what they are, they are a DAMNED nice knife.

I have a Boomslang, and it is fairly impressive for the $$ (not a lot) that it cost. Comfortable handle shape and nice balance. I like it a lot.

Thanks for that. My dad used to smoke them when I was a kid - and I've tried a few myself.....;but yeah. Even though you don't inhale cigars, they still taste like $#!+. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this.

Of course, I didn't like beer when I first (and second and third) tried it.....but I now see the errors of my ways. Too bad they raised the drinking age to 21 all over the country. I was legal to imbibe the day I turned 18. Ah, well. Happy birthday, Spike!

Second hand smoke is bad enough without actually having that crap in your mouth. :barf: And while beer is bad enough as it is, combining it with tobacco smoke is even worse.

Quotes seem to be broken... BladeForums wants to multi-quote everything I've quoted in the last day...

If you do, and in case no one ever told you... You don't breath cigar (or pipe) smoke into your lungs; just into your mouth to let your tongue and cheeks absorb all the flavor (and nicotine).

Thanks, but it's not my birthday yet, a few more months. Just something I've been thinking about[

That I did not know, you learn something new everyday

Spike here's my advice, hold off on the 18th b-day for your 21st. Get a Dominican or a Nicaraguan and skip the Cuban.

I second the having something strong to drink with it (hence the waiting for the 21st.)

I'm partial to a Rocky Patel Java with an Irish coffee while sitting in an oversized leather chair and having a rousing conversation.

dang!
I was doing it wrong!
so you're saying that when I got my crow tacked on and had to supply ceegars to the other gunners on my frigate they lied to me about how to smoke one of those?!?

Awesome! Thank you so much! I found the W66 after I pulled it out of the oil bath. Just overlooked it! All I did was quickly date the tang stamp which gave me this over a decade type time frame, so thank you very much for narrowing it down, and I'd rather trust you than my google-fu ;) I think it is very neat to know where and when things came from. Always amazes me to think where things have been before they came to where they are. Apparently, this knife came out of a guys storage unit with a whole bunch of other knife shaped stuff and fleatanas. Thanks again zz.

So far I'm still working out the edge, looks like someone put a 45degree angle on each side with a file for 20 grit stone lol. Got it down to a somewhere around 20 degree convex, may have it knocked out later tonight!
