Been trying to reply all friggen night. The forum always takes a dump right when I try to post a long reply.

Basically I was going to mention about the Condor Golok Machete and 42blades' special grade. The blade on the Golok has a distal taper. It is .25" thick through the handle but as you move towards the tip the blade thins out. As it comes from the factory the grind height is the same the whole length of the blade so the edge becomes more obtuse near the handle. If you order from baryonx and get the special grade he will raise the grind and make the edge a consistent angle the whole length of the blade. I prefer that and most others probably would also but it is something to be aware of.

I've been thinking of getting a harbour freight grinder, for sharpening as well as for some projects I've been wanting to do. For those of you that have one, how well does it work and how much room would you reccomend for setting one up?

It's better than no grinder. I have one. I am now saving towards a 2". I mainly use the 1" HF for leather sheath edges and acrylic mods. Eats belts like crazy on metal.

In general Harbor Freight stuff seems to be good for hobbyists and such. Not professional grade but will serve the common man well enough.

My standard response to this question: no.

get AT LEAST a 1x42 craftsman/delta/whatever.

Here is a picture of a HF 1x30 on the work table of a real grinder:

I'd really like to get a craftsman, but my problem is, it's hard enough trying to scrape together the $45 needed for the HF

At 40¢ per pound (current avg price in OK - low 38¢ high 45¢), that's only 108# of aluminum cans.
34 cans to the to the pound (I can remember when it only took 15 cans to make a pound) = 3672 cans

Tape your 17 to a broom handle and start hobbling the ditch with a tow-sack clipped to a crutch

If you get 100 cans a day, you'll have enough money by the time the doc let's you off the crutches.
Problem solved. You're welcome. :D

Or just hang outside of Todd's shop. Should have enough cans in a few hours. Or come get all the empty Monster cans from where I work.

So it seems like Nos got sucks into his new PS3, we may never see him again

I'm still around. Lurking mainly. Doing a Missoula Childrens Theatre play this week and I'm real busy with that, and then any free time is spent either studying lines or playing Destiny (amazing game btw, I recomend it), Uncharted 3, BO2, or Skyrim.

save your money longer. Or buy a set of files and handles.

Morning.

What's up fellas, we are passing by Selma north Carolina. About the half way point. We have been stopping to eat, walk the dog, got a hotel room last night, let the kids go swimming and stuff, but that has slowed us down a bit....

Plan to get home around 7 at this pace...

This. I have done more with files than my craftsman. Takes longer of course, but you can do quite a bit with just a hack saw and files... Add a drill and your in business... Keep you busy while you save for the grinder.

Got lucky at walmart today. This is what $230 worth of .22 long rifle looks like.

I agree with daizee. None of the harbor freight grinders I own are worth the boxes they came in. Don't waste your money. Save up more and get a better grinder. You're more likely to mess up your blades or hurt yourself with one than to get any kind of useful work done. There are some nice pieces of equipment there. By and large, the grinders are not one of them (except for the big disc grinder; that's pretty good).

While I'm extremely jealous bighoss, you know you're in America when you can go to Walmart and buy a "bucket o bullets"

In Georgia now. About 4 hours left, unless we stop for dinner.. Which is likely.

Ready to be out of this car. But glad to be out of philly.

'MURICA!!!!!

But glad to be out of philly.

I was born and raised in west Philadelphia. I spent most of my days on a playground, having a merry old time and engaging in the art of "hoops" with some colleagues outside of the school when suddenly, a couple of fellows started causing a ruckus. After the scuffle, which to me had seemed rather minor, my mother grew worried and decided it would be best if I went to live with my aunt and uncle in Bel Air. So I signaled a taxi and as it approached I could see that the license plate read "fresh" and that there were a pair of novelty fuzzy dice hanging from the review mirror. I thought this particular taxi rather odd but I brushed it off and told the driver to transport me to the home of my uncle and aunt in Bel Air. It was approximately seven or eight o'clock when I arrived at my destination and as I bid the driver farewell I also made note of the odor emanating from his vehicle and that if our paths ever crossed again I would recognize him from it. I surveyed my surroundings and thought to myself that I would be living like a prince and that this would be my kingdom.

True story.
