Nice gunk IWHAF! mmm knife cheese.

Great looking fish there AC! bet they fry up nice!

Damn Guyon, those are some tasty looking biscuits

Now if we could only get the Biscuits, knife cheese, and fish all together in one place we might have a meal going on... Just needs whiskey... I think I am about to fix that!

We have a Cajun place here that makes outstanding gumbo, etouffee, and po' boys. I know where I'm having lunch tomorrow now.

they look like channel cats to me.
around here it's mostly channel cat with the occasional blue or flathead.
peel one of those and smoke it - the layer of char on the outside holds in the moisture and when it's done, you can drop it about 6-9" onto the table and the meat falls off the bones.

smoked catfish po-boy.... mmmmmmmmmmmmm........

Yup, they are channel cats. Before today I had never caught, cleaned, or cooked a catfish. We threw em on ice until we made the trip home and did our best to fillet them. I think we did an OK job with that. Going to try to fry some up tomorrow, but am not sure how yet.

Good luck brother!

Hah All the advice you are getting is good Springy. Kids are great, but getting alone time when you have them is rough. Sleep like you've never slept before!

Haha thanks TBL. Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I was taking your advice... and sleeping.

It's funny, I've seen a bunch of times here that you guys over there love your catfish. Catfish over taste like a mixture between your a$$, a toxic waste dump and those screws that IWHAF has. And we call em grunters. When I was a kid me and my mate went fishing over at the wharf across the road from my house. Caught a grunter, threw it on the ground behind me, cast out again, took a step back and trod straight onto it's dorsal spine. Friggin thing went straight through my foot. Pain. Lots of very bad pain. I don't like grunters. Did I mention they taste like $h!t over here?

No our catties just taste like shit. No matter what part you eat. I've eaten a few thinking the same thing: maybe theres a tastier bit I'm missing or something. Nope. They're pests in a lot of water ways here too. They're just swimming garbage disposal units. They'll eat anything and have basically starved out the good fish. Believe me, if they were good eating, I'd be fishing all the time cos that's all you catch around where I'm from.

You've been eating the wrong part if they taste like fecal matter!!! ;)

When I was young, we moved out to the country (10 acres from my Dad's ancestral farm) and my Dad had a pond dug and stocked with bass and bluegill. A year or two later, the neighbor's lake overflowed and a bunch of bullhead wound up in the pond. We spent years trying to get rid of them. They muddy up the water badly and pretty much taste like mud. We used trot lines and jugs, but could never get rid of them. We often found just the heads of the bullheads on the hook where a snapping turtle had decided to have a snack. Every once in while a turtle wouldn't stop eating soon enough and would be hooked. Stewed snapping turtle is good eatin'...bullheads, not so much.

Which reminds me of a recipe for carp that I heard growing up in Missouri.

1. Catch a bunch of carp.
2. Gut and clean them.
3. Find some high clay soil from the riverbank and pack clay around each fish to cover it.
4. Build a fire and let it die down to coals.
5. Put the fish on the bed of coals, and then cover the tops with more coals.
6. Let it bake for about 30 minutes in the coals.
7. Remove from the coals, and crack open the clay coating.
8. Throw away the fish and eat the clay.

Bon appetit!

Heres the biggest fish I've ever caught. Muskie from last year. Caught on 6lb mono, had it hooked in the stomach from it missing a strike trying to eat my bobber.
Was around 46". Tried to weigh it but was squirming around and flung my digi scale in the drink. I'm 6-6'1" and this thing had most my body covered in pic. I should really try to get another this year. FUN. I hear there a pain in the ass to get one to bite when your actually fishing for them though.:D

Eh, most people have herpes, just most who carry the virus don't have symptoms.
Fish are no exception clearly.

So just for the heck of it I ordered a BK4. Should be here Monday. I'm going to have to re-do my Which Becker video.

On a separate note, I'm planning on going out for an overnighter Sunday and doing 24 hours with my BK9 as my only tool, it'll be the first of what I hope to be a recurring series on my youtube channel where I only bring one tool with me to really learn it's capabilities and develop my skills in the process. I'm starting with the Bk9 because I already know I can do almost anything with it but eventually I plan to work my way down to stuff like just a Laplander, Mora, or a Leatherman. Need to charge my camera batteries this time. I won't be limiting myself in terms of shelter/bedding, food, or water so I'll be bringing plenty of that stuff as well as as lighters and firesteels but I do plan to try to get a fire started with a bow drill first, which I have never attempted before.

I'll tell you what hoss, you just go ahead and send me.one of them there knives and I'll test it out for ya. I can do a whole write up on how cripple freindly the knife is. And if your extra nice about it I can make sure it's chalked full of Grammer and spelling mistakes, because why not. So what do you say?

:D

Damnit Hoss, try out your condors already ...lol

I did that last weekend and then had some good BBQ on the way home.
