Found this caterpillar nest in the walnut tree in my back yard.
Butterflies or moths?....
I've never seen anything like it.

Called "Web Worms", for obvious reasons. :DWe get them really badly some years down here in our pecan trees.

Two options - cut the limb out and burn it to kill the worms or mix up a batch of Malathion and spray the webs. Well, three, really... just leave it and let nature take it's course. although sometimes that will leave a tree damn near leafless during a really heavy infestation year.

Decided to drive my '84 Chevy K5 to work today. Stopped at a convenience store and when I tried to leave it seemed like I wasn't getting power to the starter. Dash lights came on and the power window in the tailgate worked but the starter wasn't even drawing power. Luckily one of my co-workers also stopped and I got a ride with him. I think either the ignition switch is shot or the starter cable is loose/bad. Luckily all my tools are in it so I just need a ride back out there after work and I should be able to have it going pretty quick.

I had that happen to me way up at Echo lake in my 90 K5 . I used the trick where you touch a screwdriver across the post on the solenoid to where the battery cable hooks to the solenoid. Luckily that worked but I was scared to turn it off so instead of staying for the weekend we had to go back to camp, pack up and go home same day we got there. Was a bad solenoid, replacing the starter fixed it. Hope you dont have too much trouble figuring out yours.

I've never owned a vehicle newer than 1993 so I've pretty much encountered every issue there is. Bad batteries, bad cables, bad solenoids, starters, ignition switches, loose connections, corrosion. I'll get it figured out.

Pretty sure those are Gypsy Moths. The caterpillars can do some heavy damage. You can actually hear them munching when you have a few nests nearby.....a torch works pretty well, too - and will do less damage to the tree than the caterpillars.

Mmm work is dead this morning. Gotta love getting paid to surf the net on my phone!

K I'm currently occupying desk space where I normally work ;) getting paid to hang out and occasionally fulfill a designated task.

I would also like to get paid to stay at home. Save on child care!

I hope this does not come across as being too political... Please visit this link and if you agree, sign the petition.

I will let the link describe the petition vs me. Frankly, it does a great job explaining it.

Thanks guys,

Kill it with fire, Jonny.

Zoiks!!
Thanks for the heads up guys.
FIRE it is!!

After work a coworker was kind enough to give me a ride back to the gas station where I had to leave Waldo, my K5. I was going to try jumping the starter solenoid but one of the terminals was in the least accessible spot possible and I was nervous because I couldn't see it and I didn't want to fry anything. I climbed out from under the truck trying to figure out how to go about this and before I could blink the guy was under it giving it a go. After some finagling he managed to jump the terminals and got the Blazer started and I drove it home to work on it at my leisure. I'm going to get a little sleep and then pull the starter and get it tested and go from there.

If jumping the solenoid got it started, I'd start with the solenoid.

OK, I just realized you probably have a starter with the solenoid on the starter motor.....I had both an old Ford and a Dodge that had solenoids separate from the motor.
Good luck.

Yeah, chevys have the solenoid on the starter, which is what made it hard to jump it. I much prefer my fords with the solenoid on the fender, the starters don't need shims on Fords either.

At first I didn't notice a draw when I turned the key to the start position but after work just for the heck of it I tried again in both park and neutral to see if it was the neutral safety switch and I thought I noticed the dash lights dim and the vent fan slow down so I'm guessing the ignition switch and NSS are working and trying to send power to the starter. The Solenoid would be the easiest to fix too. If that's what it is than this shouldn't interrupt my plans to go camping Sunday with the King.
