Bose Knives

Here is another knife that is going to Blade...a 3" Rogers Whittler by Reese. It is made with ATS-34 and has some very nice dark jigged bone of German origin.

That one is mine baby...tried to nab the Rogers Whittler from Blade 07 a while back (think Elliot drew it and traded it to Ed). Yummy

As always, there's two things that you don't want to do whilst at the Bose CE'in and CF'in session:

1. Don't scratch the knives

2. Don't take the Old Dogs chair

If a knife gets a scratch on it and you *did it....wellllll...let's just say it would suck to be you. :D

*I won't say who "did it" but his name sounds like too-tows
3. Don't let a certain auctioneer drop yer knife. Just sayin.

4. Don't ask me to close your lockback whittler.

Ya know, I've read that there is a certain way to properly open a fine multiblade knife to keep from rubbing the blades, but I've never seen any explanation of the technique. Anyone care to explain? (I assume it's something more than "hand it to the maker and have them open it for you". :) )

I think if you look at a particular knife and determine the side pressure that might possibly cause a blade to be pushed into an adjacent blade, you would be able to figure it out. On the whittler I posted yesterday, the thing to do would be to open the master blade to the full open position first...get that sucker outta the way. Then you can open the secondary blades at will with no chance of rubbage.

I know it's a repost but, for the sake of illustration...on this 5-blade stockman...

....you need to open the master blade first...then work your way from the inside out. You would next open the blades that were closest to the master blade.

My head hurts just trying to imagine the complications of pulling this off.
Absolutely amazing!

And I think I ruined my keyboard with the drool :D

...and think about this...there is a bushing on each one of those blade pivots and they are made to about .001" thicker than the blade....that all gets squished together to make a perfectly smooth operating knife....all those blade swishing back and forth in a perfectly smooth dance of buttery goodness, WITHOUT TOUCHING EACH OTHER !!

As the proud owner of a 5 blade Rogers Whittler by Reese, I have spent much pleasurable time moving all those blades back and forth and marveling at the tolerances in this little bit of mechanical goodness. A work of art that is also a technical masterpiece.

But it's lonely. It needs a 5 blade stockman for a friend.

If any of you are in the Nashville area this coming Saturday, May 16th, Tony and I will be at the Case event at Shepherd Hills Cutlery so come by and see us. We might have a Bose knife or two or three that you can CE and CF, if ya knowmsayin :D
