Boston Art Knife Classic - The GOOD stuff!

Peter, I believe it was decided, because of the pre-show issues with the authorities, that NO elephant ivory would be available on an exhibitor's table. Hence, no problems or issues with anyone.

As to proving whether elephant ivory is pre-ban or not, that's pretty much only an issue when trying to move the goods over a border, not so much having to do at all with ownership. At least that's my understanding of it.

Just finished up the last of the batch. All makers are done.

Arpad Bojtos' work always tells a story of myths. I see the head of Medusa in this ornate piece.

Jay Hendrickson. No cryptic stories here. Just an effective set of blades, in a familiar tradition.

Matt and Mary-Jo Lerch are on top of this world. They had a very successful show, and the creative designs and workmanship tells why.

This one literally brought some emotion to my wife, in its beauty. It's gaspingly beautiful.

Ken Steigerwalt has really made his mark in the collectible art deco/nuveau niche. No reason to speculate why--he does them to perfection.

Joe Kious had this one on his table, and I got a call from Tim Herman at the show to please photograph the maidens for him. He felt it was worthy.

Lastly, I had the pleasure of meeting a maker who's work I've only seen through my dealers: Romas Banaitis. He is a protege of JD Smith (who was also an attendee). Romas brought in this sculpted piece called 'Guadian Angel' to photograph, and it's a visual in fertility. ;)

Lastly, I want to give an open thanks to you, the viewers, who contributed to the value of this thread by simply admiring.

The makers spend considerable hours/days/weeks/months creating these objects, and once sold, they live alone but with a few admirers.

In this active thread they live on and on.

Best regards,

Coop

Thank you to YOU Coop.

It's a pleasure scrolling through this thread.

Not sure it's the nicest Hendrickson I've seen but definitely a well executed venture from his norm.

STeven -- I'm a huge Arpad fan and do have one of his knives. I'd love to be able to afford more of them as he and Wolfe are by far my favorite makers as I love the art knife genre. I'd love to see a book by each with as many of their works of art as can be accumulated for imaging. This Arpad is a beautiful piece as was the last one he showed at Blade 2010. Now if only the markets had not crashed 2 years ago.

I'm a big fan of Jay Hendricksons work, I love each one.

And did anyone notice Nancy Hendricksons very interesting pendant and earings? (from page two) Look Familiar?

Now this is what I call a great "day job" . . :) Absolutely fantastic shots, I could not find one that I would not like to have under my roof. Great job, great shots. Thanks for taking us to the show.
Be safe.

The knives were beyond fantastic at the BACK; I wish the Europeans had made it. I attended the show specifically for a chance at a beautiful knife that didn't make it to Boston...

Not a wasted trip, though. Saw a good old friend and made several new ones. The evening banquet spent with Jay and Nancy Hendrickson, Dave Harvey and others was delightful.

On the handle material issue, I could probably write a book about the challenges of getting not only ivory, but also micarta-handled knives delivered to me from various European sources. Third-party shipper and customs regulations have become overly cumbersome for transporting a knife....

Congratulations to Paul and Owen for a well-produced show in spite of the handle material adversities.
