BPS Knives of Ukraine

Here's a couple shots of my 2nd one, the one I got from Amazon. I believe it's called the B1-Bushcrafter. It was super sharp right out of the box. It's definitely bigger than my other one, and this sheath seems to be quite a bit thicker and more heavy duty. Oh, it also has the dangler where the smaller one didn't need to. I'm super happy with both of them.

Looks great Tyler :)

Has anyone purchased one of the MKS SSH knives that BPS makes? I saw it on their website and it looks interesting. I'm mostly curious about how well the sheath works. It's in two pieces and snaps together. Does this work well? It looks like the parts could just pop apart, but I've never had anything like that, so I can't tell.

Here's couple of pics from the website:

I saw that one pop up in a YouTube video, described as a Mushroom Knife. Innovative sheath design, but looks like a good way to lose your knife

Good point. I would probably just unsnap it and carry it in a coat pocket. Maybe use the belt part if I'm in the garden, and not walking around.

I finally got round to getting a belt pouch for my Zippo paulhilborn paulhilborn sent me many years ago (I had a pouch before, but not a belt pouch). The first thing I did was fill the snap with Gorilla Glue! :D

Yeah, I think I would do the same. I would hate to come back from a hike to find the knife and half of the sheath missing.
Maybe I could remove the snaps and permanently rivet the two parts together.

I'll let you know when mine arrives. I'm not so chuffed about the sheath. I may modify it like Gary W. Graley Gary W. Graley . Well, I'll give it my best and see how it turns out.

Thanks boss, wearing it around the house, much handier now and when I go to sit down, I just swivel the sheath forward and out of the way, far more control now.
G2

Edited to add that the original belt loop was too soft and giving, not so great when you go to draw the knife then it folds up when you want it to stay put. So, I drilled out the rivets in the sheath, figured might as well get rid of both while I was at it and not leave the lower one on there. Took some heavier veggie tan leather and glued the ends together, punched a hole through that to fit the copper fitting that I inserted from inside the sheath through the top hole for the belt loop to swivel on.

Here it is with the copper stud through the leather before putting the belt loop on

Initially it was a straight sided belt loop, but I removed it and ground in curves on both sides but the top section is still at the widest point which rests on the belt, curves add a little something to the overall look and feel for the swivel belt loop ;)

So now, when I go to draw the knife it pulls clear of the sheath without the belt loop scrunching up, not too hard to do but overall a better carry than the small soft loop that was on there.

Now the original idea would still work for those that just need it to not dance about, so that can still be a valid way of modifying the belt loop system.

I got this one on EBAY, and it actually came from Ukraine. It still only took about 4 weeks. I absolutely love it. It's the perfect size.

The 2nd BPS knife, I got from Amazon, and it was at my door in 3 days!!! It came from the Amazon warehouse in Ohio. Sorry, I haven't taken any pics of it yet. Many thanks to Mr. Black for mentioning/introducing BPS knives. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
What is this one called??

Has anyone removed the scales on one of these fixed blades? I'm definitely getting one and I do like the sheath but I wondered about if there was any glue or other adhesive involved because I saw they sell a blank too. I have shed antler sitting around is why I ask and that would be a nice winter project. I'm torn because I do like the sheath quite a bit and kydex doesn't strike my fancy for a traditional bushcraft knife, I can always make a sheath if need be, but if the scales remove easily I'd rather buy the whole package and save the sheath making bother.

I watched a YT video of a guy taking an Adventurer apart, and there was no glue underneath the scales 👍

Thanks, looks like it may be a good idea to add something to keep rust out. I like the idea of bluing it a lot, I think blue and stag look good if done right.

I wonder if they're expecting people to want to pocket-carry it. It seems like a lot of fuss to hang a small knife, otherwise.

I was thinking of getting the same blank, in fact my next order was going to be that blank and the little mushroom knife. It didn't occur to me to buy a completed knife with the sheath and just re-handle it. That's a great idea, especially because I couldn't figure out which of their sheaths would match the blank. Even if it was glued, acetone would make quick work of that.

Nope, no glue. Just screws. Makes it easier to fix if you need a new handle in the field...

Shortly before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a small fixed-blade, posted by r8shell r8shell , caught my eye, and after she told me that it was made by BPS Knives in Ukraine, I thought I would order one myself, both because I liked the knife, and as an act of solidarity. I didn't find it hard to get in touch with the small Ukrainian company, and while the knife was inexpensive, I told them just to keep the cash, if they were not in a position to ship the knife.

A few days later, Russian tanks rolled into Ukraine, and with the intensity of the fighting, I did not really expect to receive the knife. A couple of weeks later though, it turned up on my doorstep, and I was very pleased with the usefully-sized knife, which was not only great value, but special in its own way.

The knife is the BS1FTS model, with a carbon steel blade, an ash handle, a Scandi grind, and a 3 1/2" blade. At only 3.17oz it's a handy little knife to take out hiking, and the sheath is of equally good quality.

I certainly don't need anymore knives, least of all belt knives, but I thought I would order some more knives from BPS. I certainly wasn't surprised when I saw that they had had to suspend production though. I kept checking back, just to see if there was any news about the company. A couple of months later, in the midst of the terrible ongoing war, I was quite surprised to see that they were working again. I ordered a couple of more expensive knives, but again told them not to worry if they had to close up again, or if the knives didn't reach me. They turned up a couple of days ago though. The first is their Adventurer model, which comes with a ferro rod, and is nearly 10" in overall length. Like the BS1FTS, it has an ash handle, a carbon steel blade, and a Scandi grind. The shoulders of the blade are very capable of striking the well-made ferro rod.

I prefer flat-ground blades, so I also ordered the BPS Savage, which is 9 1/2" overall, with a 4 1/2" carbon-steel drop-point blade, and bog oak scales. BPS use both stainless and carbon steel, their carbon steel being 1066, hardened to 57-59 RC. While I realise this isn't a premium steel, all 3 knives arrived shaving sharp. Fit and finish is very good throughout.

When it's back in production, I'm hoping to obtain one of BPS's forged knives, and they do an interesting friction folder which has caught my eye too. It's nice to know that, with typical Ukrainian tenacity, despite everything, these cutlers are still going about their business, producing a range of knives which do them credit. Long may it continue. Slava Ukraini!
I'm interested in these Ukrainian knives as well. I saw a video by a notoriously crazy knife tester, who said they're the best for the money. Like most people on here, I don't need anymore knives either! Still, I'd like one! 😃

Just arrived today from the old country. I'm pretty chuffed with the knife. The sheath has great retention, but the snap-together feature is not very confidence inspiring. I'll drill out the snaps and install a belt loop in their place. I'll also reshape the butt of the handle a bit. Altogether, I find it outstanding quality for the price.

It's just a bit larger than an Eldris. It seems like a handy size for EDC.
