BPS Knives of Ukraine

Carrying my Savage today, and I got just an email saying my Independence Knife is on the way :)

I got the shipping email on mine today as well. 3 to 4 weeks for it to get to the States.

I don't know if the up-to-the-minute tracking info you get these days is a blessing or a curse. It's nice to know something is on the way, but it can turn into something to obsess about .

Good news :) I try not to check the tracking, it can be wildly inaccurate

The BPS Savage works great in the kitchen  Watch it though, it can get carried away, I wanted roast potatoes, ended up with what might be some sort of Ukrainian dish! :D

Your posts about this knife found me swimming in the big river, and today my Savage arrived. It's not a showpiece but a knife designed to work right out of the box! Very sharp, the oak handles have a wonderful texture offering a great grip. The back of the blade feels like it would work great on a fire starter rod. I can't think of a better deal on a quality FB that showed up on my doorstep for less than $50. To me this doesn't say look at me, it says, use me. Mine will go into a kitchen drawer and split some chickens and peel some hard squash. Thanks Jack, for bringing these into the spotlight.

That's great you got one Duane, it's a useful knife isn't it? :) The spine works great on a ferro rod

Yeah, they do a really nice job on the grinds. This thing would be at home as a camp knife, kitchen knife, and probably a bush crafter, but I don't have any need for bush crafting. I am really amazed at the quality and utility for such a price.

It's amazing they've managed to keep producing them, and to such great quality 🙂 I'm looking forward to the special edition made from Russian tank steel! 😁😉👍

I concurr, nice knives, my Savage arrived just a few moments ago and glad to see that the blade was ground fairly evenly and quite thin behind the edge as well. The spine is a crisp 90 degree, for firestarters I figure, but I will most likely soften those edges. I will also be polishing up the end section where the lanyard hole is and then make a bobtail fob for this knife, right now it's a bit rough around the edges.

The handle is super comfortable and the wood, bog oak, is grippy but a comfortable grippiness. Certainly worth the less than $40 this cost. The edge was sharp but a little stropping and it is razor sharp now. 1066 steel will rust so keeping an eye on it after use will be important, but something one should do with any knife I believe.

edited to add, the sheath is made of good thickness leather, it has a dangler loop attached to a belt loop on the sheath. Now, I get the feeling this is a generic sheath that they make that will fit most any of their line of knives as it is super snug fit with this knife and the sheath goes past the tip of the blade when I insert it as far as possible, which if not careful can cause the tip of the sheath to bend and the point of the knife to cut into the leather, so be careful with that.

Great review Gary, I'm glad you're pleased with the knife :) I agree with your points about the sheath. The Savage actually fits better in the BPS Adventurer sheath (also available separately)

Thanks, I checked and the sheath with the firestarter is out but one that doesn't have it was available and at that price it's worth it to try it ;)

Wide diamond knot on my bobtail fob, a good place to anchor my pinky when I go to draw the knife out of the sheath, tricky to tie but handy in size.

That's great Gary, nice work :) I'm afraid I've just got a length of Firecord on mine (something I will use)
