Brad Duncan Custom Knives = NO HONOR! Beware!

This would be grounds for a pummeling in southwestern (Cincinnati) Ohio.

I know of a new knifemaker who had an alcohol drug problem. Of course no one knew till he had a tad over four grand and seven or eight knives owed depending on who you'd believe.

I warned the guy (maker/thief) that the one fella was the wrong guy to pull that on. He knew I wasn't bullcrapping him but it's sad how once that crap gets a hold of someone they simply think "the rules" don't apply to them.

The maker was scoped out and followed pretty good for close to a couple months and a "life lesson" was administered. The money that was owed to this one particular fella was taken out of his wallet plus damages I guess was the way I was told.

He can't say he wasn't warned. I smirked at him when I saw him at the store almost three weeks after his lesson. He's a slow healer no doubt.

Not a cool move.

Doing this can land you in worse trouble than being out the money.

I’m getting the impression he’s not great to work with on new builds. But can we agree that his early work is awesome? I don’t look to my knife makers to be my guide in moral fortitude. I look to them to make high quality gear that will work in rough environments. I’ve read some great articles in older magazines coveting his work. And from my experience in what I’ve used. I have nothing bad to say about the guy.

🙄🙄🙄
If he robbed you of hundreds or thousands of dollars I guarantee your tune would change.

So he directly stole that amount from a specific entity or is this hearsay? And yes probably wouldn’t deal directly with him but I’m only talking about the knives he made not the character of his soul. I’ll let that sit between him and god.

And yet you call Lynn Thompson a "douche".

The maker in question stole and lied, and you "have nothing bad to say about him?"

As far as I know. Lynn Thompson never made custom knives. He was more of a Russell in the beginning. I understand and wouldn’t support dealing directly on new builds. I’m only focusing on the knives already out there. A handful of paper publications at one time called him great. So on fit, finishing, steel quality and design in the old days. How are they when you’re opinion isn’t driven by later events?

Most of us don't spend money with criminals, there are too many quality makers out there to waste the time.

That is somewhat mitigated by purchasing on the secondary market of course. I personally also don't want knives from rip off artists, no matter how talented they happen to be.

Is there a primary source for what actually went down. I feel like I’m late to this party. I’m not going to toss names out but there’s a list of makers that have reneged on orders, many of which are still successful today. I’m only referring to secondary market. I wouldn’t buy direct.
Seems like I’m still trying to get an answer to the basic question. Is it or was it a good knife?I believe it is.

Maybe start another thread asking for feedback on the knives? This thread is specifically about the makers character.

I started the thread. Caveat emptor. The knife was OK, but nothing exceptional for the day and age. He had talent, but didn’t deliver that talent in my particular instance.

Forgot this was still open. I think it’s time to move on. Closed.

Merry Christmas!
