Brass is back on the menu... GEC #44

Yeah, I don't ever remember a Northfield with the PPP etch. If anybody has one, please show it!

The Northfield 98 Texas Camp Knife has a PPP etch (online photo to save time).

Terrific, thanks Del. If there is one, there's probably more. It is unusual for GEC to make the Northfield first, but the #98 camp was an SFO of Charlie's, and the other patterns on that frame followed it.

Jeff,

You're welcome! It seems like I've seen others, but this is the only one I have.

To me it looks like a bloated .30-30 Win, almost as if someone necked a case up to .358.

Per their Instagram acct GEC indicated it's a .44-77 Sharps which is a bottleneck cartridge. I've not seen an enlarged pic of the shield yet, but it should have a very slight taper towards the bullet. (assuming their shape is accurate to the original round)

Naturally the .44-77 was used in the days of buffalo hunting. Therefore GEC's name for this knife = buffalo jack

Taper starts almost halfway down from the case mouth. That's one long-necked old black powder cartridge.

It's probably just as garish on the bone version? Usually these types of things work themselves out once the knife is in hand. ;)

I like the way brass tarnishes, so I'm looking forward to that aspect of the knife. :)

The #44 is built like a tank and feels great in hand. :D

He just bought this knife and he is using it. What a man ! The more you use them the better they look. I can't wait for my three #44s soon.

Unless you're left handed (like me!) :p :D

The #44's & the #78's are perfect (same side nicks), but a 2 blade #77 or #85 not so much.

Regardless, all GEC's are upside down & backwards for me.  :p

In other words, I'm pretty much *stuck* with single blades. :D
One arm "left handed" ! I use my feet and a blade pick ! I love it ! I will enjoy my 3 #44s soon.

Have the autumn leaf pre-ordered, but couldn’t resist the ebony. Had to order one today. I came to the conclusion that Tidioute and Northfield are a “must” for this pattern...at least for me. Pretty sure there won’t be any buyers remorse with this decision . ;)
I wish they offered "Autumn leaf" in this run. Autumn leaf has a little red added to it. This #44 Autumn gold has little to none gold in it. Very disappointing ! I will complain to GEC after I receive my blade.

What will you complain about?

Another hit by the good folks at GEC!
Got this one in from GunstockJack yesterday, fast shipping and thanks, Barry! Perfect blade centering, great snappiness, about a 7, and just a beautiful knife to hold and use. Looks vintage, feels great in hand and will get used!

That is a real winner, Perry!

I think that is the 4th one to come out so far. Does anybody here have a "family" picture of all four knives that they ordered? It would definitely make the rest of us drool uncontrollably.

Now that more people have these in hand. Are you all finding the Clip and pen to have relatively similar pulls and/or Walk and talk? Only asking because the action on the clip of my ebony is quite remarkable! The pen however is lacking in comparison. (not bad but mediocre when in direct comparison with it's neighbor.) The pen snaps to close ok but is pretty soft on opening. Nothing really to complain about just looking to satisfy my question of curiosity. Maybe I should pick up another in a different handle to compare. ;)

I am liking the colors of the Cocobolo and brass. Hopefully I can request a lighter colored, or figured one when I place my order.

Who usually accommodates requests like this?

Mine had a less of a pull on the Pen when I first took it out of the tube, but after flushing all joints it performed with the same power and effort as the Clip.
